2003 Meroni Il Velluto Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva del Fondatore. A powerful vintage, but still elegant. — 11 years ago
Had this in a restaurant! Founded in 1902 with a vineyard farmed by Giacomo's grandfather, located in Pedemonte village in NW part of Verona, now run by 4th generation of Tommasi family. A blend of 50% Corvina Veronese, 15% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella & 5% Oseleta. Aromas of dried fruits with savory spice notes. On the palate sweet plum and sweet cherry flavors with pepper & cacao. Soft tannins, chewy on lingering finish ending with an oak character. Nice! — 5 years ago
Do you want a downturn of this very nice Amarone is that the 14.5 % of alcohol limits the quantity one may drink! So take your time. — 6 years ago
Great amarone. Classic, but a modernized version. Super complex, and multi-layered. Does not feel so overpowering, as some other amarone. It drank easier, without sacrificing the body. — 6 years ago
Smooth perfection! — 6 years ago
A blend of Corvina (60%), Corvinone (20%), Rondinella (15%) and Molinara (5%). Deep red with aromas of black and red fruits and spice. On the palate candied cherry and raspberry flavors with cacao notes and baking spices. Soft smooth tannins well balanced with acidity on a long finish ending with earthy mineral tones. Very Nice! Tasting Sample. — 7 years ago
Bold. Very spicy at first and heavy, a little unlike ripasso. Softens some with air, keeps the spice, but becomes a bit more fruit forward as I expected. — 8 years ago
Punchy, strong, a little fruity and slightly sweet. — 9 years ago

Fruity, rounded raisin. Woody nose. Good body. Great to drink. — 5 years ago
Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.
Light nose of blueberries, dried figs, raisins, vanilla, sweet raspberries, tobacco, herbs, wood, earth, chocolates, coffee, vegetables, leather and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, dark cherries, blueberries, wood, cloves, vanilla, spices, espresso, vegetables, earth, wet leaves, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Medium plus on the finish with grippy tannins and tangy pomegranates.
This is a young Amarone. Still not fully balanced, but already enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.
I would recommend to let it open for a couple of hours to show the complexity and the big tannins.
Needs 5 to 10 years of additional bottle time, to properly mature and tone down on the tannins.

An "authentic" Valpolicella Superiore. No half-dried grapes, no new oak, no sugar. Traditional blend of corvina, corvinone, rondinella, molinara, fruity of cherries, a touch of black pepper, floreal of violet. In mouth: cocoa, coffe powder, cherries. — 10 years ago
