This is an excellent wine! When Sting wrote his iconic "Message in a Bottle" he sang of the universal human need to connect. With aromas of cherries and wild blackberries (and you can taste it) the bottle says it goes most perfectly with friends, loved ones and convivial conversation so send an SOS to someone to come and share it with you! Tablas Creek has long been one of my favorite Paso Robles producers. From the care they put into their vineyards—biodynamic farming, noisy sheep, a rambunctious trio of winery dogs, and a resident shepherd—the good folks at Tablas turn out elegant wines that are nuanced, superbly balanced and long aging. For the price, they're just that much more attractive. The 2016 Patelin de Tablas is fresh, light, convivial. A farewell dinner for a good friend returning to France with his family after establishing the most convivial auberge in town. Warmed up with a fun raspberry-charged Côtes de Blaye then delved into this Saint-Émilion grand cru. A right-bank Bordeaux blend of Merlot & Cabernet Franc that holds surprisingly luscious deep graphite alongside its dense dark fruit & hints of pralines and mahogany. Paired delightfully with duck confit, among other scrumptious plates. :) ...a great "until we meet again" dinner! — 10 years ago

A classic Provençal rosé, Château D'Esclans Whispering Angel 2014 is, as the name suggests, a convivial and charming romp, with just enough of a mineral and earth underpinning to keep it from floating away. Alpine strawberries and raspberries on the nose, along with line-dried linen and wet river rock. In the mouth, fine-boned delicacy and airiness, the perfect expression of summer. — 10 years ago

Tasted while visiting Devaux, in the Côte de Bar—the house itself, an historic building just off the bank of the river Seine. Thier non-vintage Cuvée Rosée is tutu pink, with a fine bead it offers a pretty sensor arc of rose petals, anise, red berries and pastille mints. Fresh and convivial on the palate, it's not a rosé Champagne of tremendous depth or power, what it communicates is poise and pleasure. Sample — 8 years ago
