Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2012

Blessedly under 14 degrees. Lovely blend of Morello cherry, sousbois, iron, dusty tannins, fresh acid, restrained wood. Served with dry-aged ribeye Florentine, canellini, salad of local lettuces. Did what Chianti should: wash down food, give idea of terroir (not ambition). Fresh and lively. Re-buy with conviction. Very good within context, good value, indeed. — 10 years ago

Affirms my conviction, shared by others, that Bordeaux Blancs are the greatest bargain whites out there. $11.99 for this one. — 10 years ago

No. 6 Dijon Free Johan Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

Chad Stock´s chardonnay testing his conviction that Dijon clones aren't best suited to the Willamette Valley AVA terroir. Whatever your view, this is a beautiful wine. — 11 years ago

I really like what Chad is doing, I hope he keeps it up! Interesting to note that non-Dijon clones were THE clones to plant here decades ago before giving way, and here we are back to Wente clones et al.

19 Crimes

Victoria Red Blend 2014

My 4th Halloween wine is just absolutely delicious! Full bodied wine with a smooth taste that lingers in your mouth. This is the story on the back: 19 crimes turned criminals into colonists. Upon conviction, British rogues, guilty of at least one of the 19 crimes, were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. This punishment by "transportation" began in 1788, and many of the lawless died at sea. For the rough-hewn prisoners who made it to the shore, a new world awaited. This wine celebrates the rules they broke and the culture they built. — 10 years ago

A little stinky upon opening them the stank to drank ratio shifts to beautiful juicy, brambly raspberry fruit with a framing bit of savory earthiness and tannins to balance the exuberance. Re-buy with conviction! — 10 years ago

Domaine Jamet

Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2012

Pomegranate molasses/thick red raspberry fruit, but sufficiently lifted and bright such that it is refreshing. Nose brings to mind Faury Syrah but it's smoother and less feral, feels stem my but polished; obviously not the elegance of a Côte Rôtie but managed an elegant balance nonetheless. At 16€, back up the truck. Roses come to mind with air, and it seems to gain conviction, even alluding to the tiniest meatiness. Yum. — 10 years ago

Cabernet Sauvignon

Big forward projecting fruit. Candied raspberry/blackberry with some pepper elements. Tannins are sweet. Very cult Napa Cab-like. Not bringing secondary flavors but primarily it is very approachable and delicious. — 10 years ago
