Whenever we drink this, we remember a lovely picnic at the winery with @Joe Lucca and his wife Diana. Chappellet’s wines are as impressive as the winery. This is a more restrained, subtle Napa cab, tilting more towards a French Bdx, as opposed to the more common Napa exuberance. The nose of soft oak and coffee notes displays elegance. The palate is pure and clean. With no signs of aging, delicate notes of black cherries and truffles are packaged with polished tannins and neutral oak. Drinking this was like standing in an art gallery while admiring a lovely piece of art - a wonderful experience. — 7 years ago
Coffee, dark fruit, smokiness, chocolate, vanilla. Very long finish — 8 years ago
Coffee grounds, chocolate and prunes. Intensely concentrated and oaky nose, but delightfully balanced on the palate. — 8 years ago
Really nice and pleasant blend. Young and a bit cranky but rewarding with some air. Dark black fruits, fennel seed, turned wet earth, coffee, cedar, cocoa, tobacco, and dried flowers. Enjoyed the acid that balanced the forward but fine clay-like tannins. — 9 years ago
1998 #domperignon obvious age since bottling. Medium gold color. Intense nose of coffee and cream. On the palate it's amazing with a slight resemblance to an #amontillado from #sherry It's smooth and round. — 10 years ago
Yes, you can make a Manhattan with Irish.... — 10 years ago
Intense ruby red color with nice aromas of ripe dark fruits, mocha, and cigar box. Full-bodied with ripe blackcurrant, plum, creamy vanilla, coffee, and soft spices on the palate. Meaty structure & smooth tannins coupled with nice long length on the finish. Pair well with lamp. — 10 years ago
Wonderful wild berry fruit, autumn leafs, deep and mysterious, espresso coffee, bitter cherry, wet tabaco leaf, a salty kale note, very attractive. In the mouth this is full, almost sweet but slightly dries tabacco and cherry fruit, soft, dainty, very attractive, lithe and alive. A great wine! — 11 years ago
Not quite as amazing as the 2011 vintage, but similar notes of gasoline and coffee with a nice velvety finish. Pairs really well with red meat. — 12 years ago

A little disappointing. Doughnut issue — 7 years ago
Brilliant stuff, first time with this one but a real winner, round full flavour with a little fizz in the mouth — 8 years ago
One of the most overhyped beers ever! — 9 years ago
The Ruzan Segla 2006 is with no doubt a robust muscular wine, full of power and presence. It has a deep dark red color, the nose is very smoky with leather, coffee, roasted barrel, coffee, smoked turkey, black cherries and spices, full body with firm dry tannins, lovely acidity, a complex rich texture, the wine is still young and needs more time to settle down, the finish is long dry and spicy. My score 89. Drink to 2026 perhaps longer. — 9 years ago
A lot of really great components--- love the chocolate, chili spice, and coffee---but in the end the sweetness was overbearing. A very good beer still, but more restraint would have made this excellent in my mind. — 10 years ago
Dark and thick, syrupy but not too sweet. Tastes like blackberry, oak, tobacco, coffee, dark cherry. Very rich colour, smooth. — 10 years ago
Nice blend from South Africa. — 11 years ago
Worth letting age. It gets better as you drink it. This is a full body wine, great fruit, coffee and chocolate flavors. — 7 years ago
2015 bottling. I don’t really drink stuff like this much anymore but this was very well made and delicious. — 7 years ago
My favorite non-nitro stout. Flavor notes are perfect and well balanced. It’s what stouts of this variety should aspire to be — 7 years ago
Lots of blackberry flavor; I don't taste the chocolate or coffee referred to on the label. Still, this is something you could curl up with along with your favorite stew (I'm thinking turkey chili with mole). — 8 years ago
Deep, dark and elegant 2009. Subtext of coffee/ cocoa. At home steak with Joe. — 8 years ago
It's time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. This time, a wonderful Chilean Cabernet.
Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.
Beautiful nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, bell pepper, sage, peppermint, eucalyptus and smoke.
Full bodied with medium acidity and beautiful long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherries, figs, cloves, herbs, earth, cola, vanilla, oak, spices, light vegetables, coffee, chocolates, bell pepper, tobacco, beef jerky and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.
An elegant, Single Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, with lots of complexity and fitness, but not fully balanced yet.
Still young now, but very enjoyable by itself, and better with BBQ Meats. I paired it with a cheese platter, crackers and nice company.
Grapes are grown at the foot hills of the Andes Mountains, on stony soils. 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc.
14.5% alcohol by volume. — 9 years ago
This wine is still very young, tight and firm, it needs more time and I am happy I have at least one more bottle to follow on in 2022. A deep garnet color, a lovely nose, full of coffee, leather, earthiness, animalistic notes, cherries and so many more lairs of dry leaves , dry spices and tobacco notes, full body, with firm dry tannins, notes of smoky oak and lots of animalistic flavors, long dry yet tasty finish My score 91, drink to 2023 or even longer. — 10 years ago
Joe D'Angelo
The 2016 Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande is simply sensational in this vintage. This brilliant wine is made from 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc and it exudes sheer class and elegance. It begins to impress with its beautifully pure aromatics of fresh dark currants, exotic spices, coffee bean, spring florals, graphite, tobacco all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is medium to full-bodied with remarkable structure, balance and depth. It further impresses displaying striking precision and definition through the long, graceful finish. The 2016 may require a decade of cellaring, but it is such a beautiful wine and clearly has the potential to be an all-time classic from this legendary Château. — 6 years ago
