On the palate, there is a battle between fruit and earth; deep, earthy forest flavors are offset by bright, tart spring cherries. Coastal botanicals play against wild fruit. A lovely expression of the Plavac Mali grape, with this one grown on steep coastal hills.

Inky, dense and heady nose that evolves from sweet blueberry, cola bottles to raisins, figs and then leather. This bottle had a slight chemical note to it, but think that may have been the glass.

Medium acidity, chewy tannins and a drawing, medium length finish. — 10 years ago

From my father’s cellar, this was opened for about an hour in the bottle before pouring. We were worried that we held onto this wine for too long. But weren't we surprised, especially for 16 year old wine at under $9.00! The color is deep and dark opaque red. Love the nose on this wine. Very gentle but started with a soft barnyard or farm smell, not manure. Then moved on to chalk, dark berries and flowers. Very savory and delicious on the palate complemented with beautifully balanced moderate tannins and body. Very well integrated, so smooth and well put together. Only downside was the short finish. But who cares for $9.00 a bottle and still so deliciously smooth after 16 years! I will try a newer vintage in South Africa later this year, and if it continues to do this well it will be one of my top 5 wines under $10. — 11 years ago
