Ampeleia, beyond this winery in the heart of Maremma (Tuscany) there was a swiss couple: Erica and Peter Max Suter, they bought an abandoned piece of land which since 2002 has been reorganized under the protection of Elisbetta Foradori. Roccatederighi's the ancient town nearby that spread over the Metalliferous Hills. All the Ampeleia wines bear names that recall ancestral ideas and profound concepts taken from ancient Greek culture: Kepos, Empatia, Ampeleia. Biggest enemy in the wine region is an excess heat and too much sun exposure of the vines which could provides too mushy wines or some dispreferred overipe. How does Marco Tait in the vineyards first then in the cellar, fight against such an adversary? Altitude, actually three different altitudes! Decisamente un Verdicchio sopra le righe. Il territorio è quello di Matelica, meno famoso ma disseminato di ottime cantine e grandi vini.
Pieno, rotondo, fresco e minerale. Note di caramella all'anice, mou e mandarino. Bocca piena e succosa, un sorso ti appaga per diversi minuti, ma poi ti dice che non basta e ne vuoi ancora, fino a che@la bottiglia nonnsi svuota. Annata 2011 — 9 years ago
Pure red with hints of purple in the glass. Deep rich dark plum aromas along with spicy quality that isnt alcohol based but intriguing. Flavors of dark baked fruit like plums and a herbal quality reminiscent of taragon or sage. Delicious wine! 2013 — 9 years ago

2010, Citille Di Sopra, Brunello Di Montalcino, Sangiovese. One of my favorite all time labels and it also a good Brunello. Black fruit, leather, wet dirt, good acid and a little tannic. Went well with home made Green Egg pizza. — 9 years ago
