Hints of fruit - finishes dry. Very good. — 7 years ago
A classic. — 7 years ago
Incredible potential with beautiful balance. Black fruit with a spot of white pepper. Nice oak of leather and cigar ash. Not ready yet but will try it in 5 years and probably be blown away. Decanted for 90 minutes and still tight. — 9 years ago
Dusty, cigar ash, R. Apple skins, dried earth, spices, dried herbs, smoke. Structurally this wine is very sound with vibrant acid and tannin still holding on. Almost Nebbiolo-like in texture and elegance. Very pretty and beautiful. — 9 years ago
1976 Vintage. Pretty amazing. Iron & earth, tobacco, cigar box, straw, dried prunes, and dried savory. All the good stuff. — 10 years ago
Classic cigar box. — 11 years ago
From magnum, the wine offers an explosion of black fruit with a lovely violet, black cherry and cassis foundation. There is a hint of bay leaf and emerging tertiary notes of leather, forest floor and cigar box. Cedar emerges on a long finish. Very elegant, silky Tannins and beautiful weight in the mouth. Truly elegant with a textbook balance of grit and earthy character. Gorgeous now and for another decade at least. — 3 years ago

Pretty delicious and the only field recordings offering that I've found in Alabama. — 8 years ago
To me the most complex wine of the night offering a deep cerebral experience, with what I thought of as a berry bouquet garni was the 2000 Haut-Brion. The most contemplative, while also a deeply pleasurable wine, offered layers of classic Bordeaux notes of toast, coffee, currants, cassis, subtle & smokey campfire embers, cigar box...the list goes on and most of that was in the nose. The palate was texturally seamless, packed and stacked with structure that never got in the way, though you would notice it on the finish letting you know it was there.
2005 was locked up and unrelenting at first, the second go an hour later was more repenting but it was still not nudging much. A thoroughly excellent wine, but just not revealing much beyond the hints of its greatness.

2009 vintage, big nose of leather and cigar box, silky smooth on entry... Long finish.... Stunning wine being enjoyed along side a steak — 10 years ago
A bit past it's prime, but delicious regardless. Leather and mild cigar on the nose along with subtle floral notes. Fruit flavours were very light blackberry and plum. Very warm earthy tones. Tannins were all but gone. A great way to celebrate a birthday! — 11 years ago
Faustino 1985 sold yesterday @sanangelinn Mexico City! — 12 years ago
heavy pencil shavings and cigar smoke on the nose. black olive and green bell pepper too. color is definitely what you’d expect in a 20 year old wine. palate is consistent with nose, very bordeaux-lite. heavy cigar box. a lot of olive and herb tapenade character. some black pepper on the finish too. very savory overall. — 3 years ago
Dark purple with brick to rim. Cigar, pencil lead and a black currant profile. Not the strongest year, but proper and traditional claret owned since release. 12.5%. — 4 years ago
Leather, cigar box, with some acid and sling bitterness on the finish — 5 years ago
Not a “Bordeaux guy” but that may be because I don’t/can’t get my hands on the real stuff. This was pretty revelatory. More floral and delicate and sensuous than I could’ve imagined for a broad category our server called “cigar-box.” — 7 years ago
Herbacious with cigar box notes and evolved fruit. A showing beautifully right now. — 9 years ago
"I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is at Calon"... I can see why Nicolas Alexandre Marquis de Segur said these iconic words after having this wine in my glass. The nose is so inviting with warm spice, cigar smoke, embers, and toast. Raspberry syrup, plums, vanilla, and toffee on the palate. Nice thread of smoke throughout with nice balancing fresh fruit. What an enjoyable wine! 20 months in new oak - obviously the more accessible style the new owners are going for... the Pinot the other night gave an experience, this one tells a story. — 9 years ago
2001: going into a black olive, black truffle note. Rich meaty notes, vibrantly meated, smoky, leather, tobacco, cigar. Towards full, complex, chewy. Light liquorice, light black truffle. Tip top. — 10 years ago
Great way to warm up on a 20 degree night! 🍷 — 11 years ago
Pass! Looks too much like Chocolate Shop. $17 / 88pts — 12 years ago
