It's been nearly a year since I first tasted this wine, but I immediately remembered why I loved this Albariño as soon as it coated my palate. It's pale straw in color and crisp, screaming summer all the way from the tip to the back of my tongue. I'm almost afraid my words won't do it justice, but there's an immediate impact of stone fruits, lemon, and salty minerality that crash together on the palate like ocean waves at high tide. It was this salty minerality that immediately made me think, "I am drinking the fruit and soil of the Galer Home Vineyard in Chester County." From the winery's tech sheet, it's absolutely the soil - Manor Loam and Glenelg Silt Loam Series - along with gift of former winemaker, Catrina North, that makes this a stellar example of Chester County, Pennsylvania wine. This was a gift from owners Brad and Lele Galer. Available at the winery for $35. http://www.galerestate.com/ — 9 years ago

Gettysburg Adams Country Winery, Presidents Choice. 5 on sweet scale. SO GOOD! — 12 years ago
Clear deep orange in the glass. Big bosomy nose of white flowers and candied orange peel. Full rich body with medium plus acidity. Lilies and orange peel lead on the palate. Medium finish with a hint of wet stone. Great on its own, but lives for food. — 8 years ago
Great summer wine — 8 years ago
This is a decent white wine. A little more on the dry side, but has a good flavor to it. Comparable to some Chardonnays. — 8 years ago
Ice wine! From Pennsylvania! Not only possible but incredible. I don't know how they manage it. Apricot and pineapple dominate, delicious. — 9 years ago

Produced by a very small vineyard in Avondale, PA (yes, Pennsylvania!) this is an indulgent estate grown dry Rosato with depth and a lingering dry finish. Limited production. Excellent pairing with cheese and charcuterie. — 9 years ago

I had this at Kali in Los Angeles, where sommelier Drew Langley watches over an immaculately curated wine list. Does "Summer of Riesling" do it for you? It does for me, especially when they are such good examples. My wife had a Kabinett, but I had this Vandenberg example from Santa Barbara County. They listed it as "dry and medium bodied," which is good advice for a Riesling. This one, though, has a nice touch of petrol - I mean why order Riesling unless it has that? - along with extreme minerality and a muted citrus note. Paired it with the Niçoise salad to great effect. Also a hit with the wife's roast pork, Pennsylvania native that she is. — 8 years ago
