Truly stunning- a complete wine with power and finesse. Bursting with sweet red fruit. Intense minerality. Ample weight without feeling heavy, and a finish that seems to last all day. The delicacy and sweetness of Volnay with the power and structure of Gevrey. Leather, licorice, tobacco, smoke. In a blind tasting this would be hard for me to differentiate from a 1er cru Burgundy. Easily the best Sancerre rouge I’ve had the opportunity to taste. Will age for 15 years or more. Gorgeous wine. — 8 years ago

Been a little bit since I checked in on this. Baby Clos des Chenes. Nose is all stones, minerals, light cherry and seems closed aromatically. Palate is lush and rich with lovely balance, purity and freshness but seems closed. Lovely finesse. Serious dense fruit and structure. Black and red cherries. This is the vintage Xavier really got going. Lovely nose of spice and mineral. Big candies cherries and some sour cherries as well. Palate is soft and elegant with huge fruit. Sappy and spicey with lovely freshness. Good mouthfeel and terrific value. Needs maybe 15 minutes and then raring to go. Terrific sweetness of fruit smothered with spice. — 8 years ago
