This is viscous and tart. Very pear driven. Some lemon and lime (reminds me of a more full bodied Charles Heintz chard), hints of malo, honeyed-mango. Not extremely acidic and does well at pop and pour. — 7 years ago

Understandably misunderstood. This wine—like other oxidized wines such as Vin Jaune, Madeira and Sherry—deserves a day or two in the decanter to really shine.
Notes of caramelized pineapple, finger lime and hazelnut are braced by a minerality that is out of this world. Probably want to sit on this for a few years.
Glad I stocked up when this was released; this is only going to get better, putting on weight and fleshing out even further. — 9 years ago

I love this wine and have urged Sharon Harris (owner of Rarecat Wine - full disclosure, a friend of mine) to start making this wine again. The color is a beautiful golden and the taste is a tropical explosion, with lots of Meyer lemons and caramel. Very hard to find, but if you do, buy it! — 7 years ago

Unbelievable! Golden, pineapple, honey. Rich, but not "oaky". Not buttery, either. Weighty mouthfeel, almost oily, but not too viscous. I'm duly impressed with how well this Chardonnay has aged. The "isobel" is from the Russian River Valley via the Charles Heintz Vineyard. — 8 years ago

Meyer lemon, pineapple, apricots, stone fruit, yellow florals, creamy, touch waxy, nice acidity, round, minerality is soft-perfect, really big nice finish. As soon as I smelt this, my guess was a young Charles Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay. It always has such a tropical nose, dominant of guava and papaya...so different from other west coast Chardonnays. I ended up guessing the vineyard correct ✔️. — 8 years ago

I have always wanted to try this guys wines. Very eccentric in his release philosophy, current vintage of the chard is 1999. On this night I got to try 3 different '95s. By far the best of the bunch was the Charles Heintz vineyard which had matured into something unrecognizable in CA chard. Great experience. — 8 years ago
