Still five years (at least) away from having any charm, this bottle instead traded on power and authority. Dark and full of iron, it was a Barolo like Burgundy and great with the decadent lamb shanks.

The quote from Claude Arnoux, from 1728, "all the lords who prefer healthful drinks to dainty ones order wines from the Cote de Nuits for their table" made me reach for this Gouges.
