Vintage 2004 - it’s quite comforting and energizing to drink a good bottle from my cellar after a hard day’s work. This special cuvee from old merlot vines exceeds my expectations: very rich and complex smell with tobacco, vanilla, morello cherries and a taste of minerals, beautiful ripened. Started out all berries and shaved chocolate and opened up beautifully....then really clamped down a bit after a couple hours...killer wine just starting to show some age notes but leave it alone still....really nice next to the 2004 Pontet Canet. — 8 years ago

Classic lunch bags and just a stellar treat in a crowded sea of Napa cab. My fave 5th growth by a long shot but Pontet Canet and Grand Puy Lacoste aren't far behind. The Lynch seems to shine for me regardless of vintage. — 7 years ago

Ideal maturity! Like Pontet-Canet and Leoville-Barton, Gruaud made a better 1994 than the more famous 1995 & 1996. This isn't just good for an off year- with prime rib it is great cassis loaded, medium bodied, vibrant claret. — 8 years ago
