One of the better Chardonnays on the table. Although I think this one was bested a scosche by a 2015 Aubert Sugar Shack. This is the opinion of one man! I really was not getting much on the nose. Possibly due to my impatience of wanting to try within 5 minutes of cork pop? Potentially. Definitely on the herbal side. Palate of yellow fruit, guava, baked green apples. More to the leaner than full throttle side. Finishing with some stiff oak tannin, this one is going to hang around for a WHILE I believe. I think I'd like to try this in a few more years if I am lucky... — 6 years ago

Cult chard tasted alongside a 2010 Aubert Lauren Chard....this one lost by a unanimous vote (and it wasn't even a blind vote either). I think everyone WANTED the Judge to win, but there was nothing to Judge here. At least for THIS COMPARISON, in 2018, the Aubert was the winner. BUT, this Judge chard did have more acidity up front than the Aubert, and IMO this wine has more aging potential than the 2010 Lauren Chard, which was pretty much right on the top of the hill tonght. Hard to beat a wine in its prime window, but goes to show you that Aubert makes chards that will compete with this kind of opponent. Lots of acid up front. Stone ground fruit entry, mineral-rich middle. I think that I was getting more pear than anything else here, but there was a hint of youthful butter and some dates. Finishes with actually a really nice fruit/nutty/almost gritty/tannin character for about 60 seconds, which is the one thing I will say that I give advantage to the Judge. Bravo! — 7 years ago

Undeniably well made Chardonnay with impressive viscosity, fullness and in your face decadence. I'm guessing this is a crowd pleaser. For my palate there is too much predominant oak here and a cloying sweetness on the denouement. I'm going to revisit tomorrow and see if there is a blow off. I still like it but I'd grab a Kongsgaard or Aubert over this every single time. — 10 years ago

Painfully young, but that old vine syrah and granite density make it hard to resist. Dark, angry, pure granitic bite on the back half, needs some time, but the ripeness and warming fruit is coaxed out with air. I see a lot of potential here. — 4 years ago

“Piss” yellow color. Faint bubbles of effervescence. Burnt salted caramel nose. Candied lemon/lime. Distinctly front- and mid-palette loaded. Lemon curd. Very long finish. Excellent freshness for a 10 year old. Quite good, though Aubert is comparable with half the age. — 5 years ago

Aubert typically known for their Chard (which is awesome) has a masterpiece red with this Boudreaux blend. Raspberry jam with a toasty vanilla and milk chocolate finish. Still young, but incredibly balanced and smooth. — 8 years ago

Color hazy; due to cloudy sediment but nose is very complex with tropical fruits and muted vanilla overtones. In the mouth the fruit is rich, fruity, and smooth. A blockbuster wine with huge alcohol (15.2%) which is not appreciated in the initial tasting. I would consume this in its youth and first 5 years due to the fruit balancing the alcohol. — 8 years ago

Golden color; creamed lemon on the nose. Very elegant aromatics. In the mouth huge creamy lemon curd with awesome flavors and finish. Acid balance is perfect as well giving it a French signature. Best California Chardonnay since the Aubert Hyde and son. Even more elegant! Great wine and should drink well for 5-7 years. — 5 years ago

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.

This was en mag. WOW. Slightly cloudy in the glass. My first guess when looking at it was Marcassin, but it wasn’t waxy enough on the palate. Smelled of rich lemon cream, powdered lemon bars and juicy fruit (that should always be my key to guessing PM). A powerhouse on the palate with juicy tropical fruits, marshmallow, and sweet marzipan. Gorgeous stuff. I called this 2012 Aubert Ritchie. — 6 years ago

About what I rated the 09 in 2012 and the 14 in 2017. And I think I had a 12 not too long ago. These chards are good but this one particularly didn't hold a candle to a 14 Aubert Ritchie Chard. Hopefully not bottle variation on a 2015... Seemed to just not have a whole lot there. And I don't think it's because it is too astringent...the Judge wines seem to definitely rock it though. I got ahold of this one probably an hour after it had been open. — 6 years ago
