From other reviews I detect wide variation in ratings. This suggests wide variations of providence for such an old gem. Personally, my bottle was extraordinary...luck of the draw.

I have tasted many 1961 over the years, this continues to be one of my favorite wines...The strange thing is that this bottle with its high necklinewas the youngest 1961 that I had ever tried, wine had an great Providence - One owner and one incredible cellar.

1961 was a magical year on the right bank; now over 50 years of age it has lost some weight but picked up elegance on the nose - wet clay, graphite/lead pencil, umami/truffle - nose candy for sure. — 9 years ago

Purple hues in the glass coming clean with a whiff of alcohol. Bold and richly structured paving the way for huckleberry, herbs de providence, and smokey cappuccino. Midpalate shows its youthfulness which I like, accents of tea and cedar. Tannins hold strong and fleshy, yet very soft mouthfeel. Served at room temp. Lovely wine. — 8 years ago

WowBig Boy! Full bodied Rich and yes I was fooled! Thought it to be from Uco or Mendoza Providence! Yes it is Cahor Appellation in France made by Paul Hobbs team! 2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne Romanee Burgundy. Drank w Rick and K at Providence. Beautiful wine that had nice strawberry and cherry notes with some earthier smoke- like noses. Interesting. Great to sip and drink with lighter dishes and before the 1999 Soldera. Really enjoyed this wine all around! — 9 years ago
