Despite the cool red and black fruit and hints of damp earth, there is no escaping the element of new oak. Now I wonder if I should have left this vibrant, tightly coiled wine for a few more years. Dang it. — 10 years ago
A couple of hours later, oak has quieted down, tannins are up, and complexity is heightened. Dang it. This thing won't be close to peaking for five, maybe ten more years. It will, I think, never be completely balanced, but it's gonna be a treat down the line.
