Château Du Mignon

Christophe Mignon

Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier

The aromas are tropical lemon blossoms and being on a pebble beach. Lemon custard and the hint of pineapple (including that feeling on your tongue that pineapple gives you - in a very light good way) round finish. Vintages 2014/2015. Disgorged 1/6/2018. TBL — 4 years ago

Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier

The nose and flavors in the mouth are more refined than the Brut, it’s subtle but obvious, making this more creamy with a longer finish. Vintages 2014/2015. Disgorged sept 17, 2018. TBL — 5 years ago

Pumping this up to 94 gents. Great value. I think the store noticed that this was a steal at $30. Now it's $40. Still worth it with a charcuterie, fingerling potatoes, roasted squash, and filet mignon. Finished with pistachio ice cream. And maybe an old fashioned or two. — 8 years ago

Brut Rosé de Saignée Champagne

A stunning rosé champagne. First off, there’s that amazing salmon color. Not a ton of bubbles but those that are there are tiny. Ridiculously deep nose featuring plums, dried cherries, and ripe strawberry. Fresh herbs, oolong tea, and rose petals compliment. It really is such a pretty and graceful bouquet.

100% Pinot Meunier, this is rich and delectable throughout. Creamy and sensual in the mouth, this is silky smooth. Zero dosage and quite fruity, the two Pinots really work their magic here. It’s very vibrant and generous.

Intense raspberries attack the palate, along with cherries. Traces of mild oak, freshly baked bread, and mint. Sassafras, creamy vanilla, crushed petals, and nuts. A really unique and delicious Grower champagne. Outstanding on every level.

Shafer Vineyards

One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The small winery is managed by father/son team John & Doug Shafer. A blend of 90% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot & 3% Malbec, aged, 20 months, 100% new French oak. Beautiful fruit & floral aromas with hints of savory spice. On the palate cherry & raspberry flavors with a tight oak structure adding pepper, licorice & dusty cacao. Firm tight tannins, needs decanting now, lingering ending with fruit & slight mineral edge. Good now but 5 years of cellar rest with make wine pop! Had this with a Holiday Filet Mignon. Nice! — 6 years ago

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Third of 3 Napa cabs I've had tonight, and by far the best. Open for a few hours before finally trying and it is so damn floral. Soft red fruits dominate the palate, with a hint of dark chocolate and that new American oak smell/taste. The color is a dark magenta and pretty. All I need is a big ol' filet mignon to eat with this. — 9 years ago

Pizza Time Brooklyn Special and Trefethen... Baby Mack loving the pizza and Daddy loving the wine... This winery has been around longer than me (by a year) and it shows... Once again, this is why I'm such a shitty collector... Should probably be drinking this with a filet mignon and not pizza... Still; so, so good!!! — 10 years ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Gorgeous color, and an interesting play on the nose I can’t quite identify. Lovely complexity and length. It’s a decent sipper, but would probably be amazing with something earthy like mushrooms or truffles. Maybe a nice mushroom duxelles over a filet mignon for bringing out additional subtleties. — 6 years ago

Domaine Tour Saint Michel

Cuvée du Lion Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2010

My notes on this from May of 2017 still apply. Popped and poured. Drank well over two days. Immediately this wine impresses visually. Sure, the color is an expected deep garnet but what's most striking is the fact that it's never completely opaque at the core. You can just barely get the faintest amount of light to see through it. It's quite beautiful, really. The nose is initially a bit reticent but a few minutes of air in the glass does the trick and then it really begins to show off the most lovely perfume of mixed red and dark fruit; so fresh and pure with just a flash of garrigue. No perceptible heat on the nose. On the palate it's a veritable wonder of berries, Rainier cherries, black berry liqueur, and just a touch of fine white pepper. The body is perfectly proportioned and the finish lasts for over 30 seconds. In summary, this is an incredibly balanced 2010 CdP that is already hitting its prime. Personally, I felt it was really at its very best about two hours in which leaves me to believe it should be a great pop and pour for the next couple of years and potentially has the balance to be great for longer. That being said, there is no need to decant, just pull the cork, pour and enjoy the evolution in the glass. The hard part is allowing it to last for two hours and longer. It should be noted that this is dangerously quaffable wine and it wouldn't be hard to take the whole thing to the head. Might as well drink these sooner than later as I'm always a bit wary of CdP much beyond the 10 year mark, where I tend so find many of them fall apart on the palate. Perhaps others with more experience in the long-term ageing of CdP can chime in though. Absurd value at $30.

As a side note, this paired very nicely with pan fried pork savory bacon wrapped filet mignon.

Château Lanessan

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Dark fruit balanced through old oak showing light spice on the nose encouraging thought to nail a specific note but is remaining a bit of an enigma in my rock rattled head after a good day enhanced by 75 MPH Harley induced wind and the brilliance of Bose and an iPhone. Ok, back to the wine, it touches, lightly grabs spreading its dark berry mini-burst in a layered earth touched tannin slow ride making magic with some of Chapel Hill's Bin 54's straight up amazing goodness (in this case very rare filet mignon, garlic tinged green beans and almond slivers; my go to steak spot in NC). Damn, this is all so right-on! Cheers! — 10 years ago
