Easy to drink. Black cherry with a hint of spice. Bought at Mitsukoshi for ¥4,500. — 4 years ago
Barnyard funk to open, which softens with breathing. Black raspberry and boisenberry fruit. Vanilla and tobacco in the background. On the palate, there is a firm tannin backbone with raspberry and blackberry fruit carrying forward. Finishes well. Solid wine, better with 30+ minutes of breathing. — 8 years ago

2018 vintage. Second wine of Cru Classé Malescot Saint-Exupéry. Charming nose with ripe black cherries, raspberry jam and some floral hints. This medium-bodied, fruit-driven Margaux is drinking well already with silky tannin and good length. Not very complex, but a very charming wine indeed. Abv. 14%. Good value at less than half the price of the Grand Vin, even if I would rate the less expensive La Tour de Bessan (tasted alongside) higher. — 3 years ago

2019 vintage. Previously known as Château Capbern Gasqueton, but after the death of the last Gasqueton, the estate was sold (together with Calon-Ségur) to the French insurance company Suravenir. This 2019 Saint-Estèphe features a dark red colour with a purplish rim and an attractive perfume of blackberry, cassis , slightly smoked cedar wood and a hint of pepper. Concentrated layered black fruit, with fresh acidity that perfectly balances the surprisingly high alcohol (15% abv.). Terrific value at around 20 euros. — 4 years ago
