My wife & I were shopping at Central Market last night and couldn’t help but notice they were serving Caymus BTG at the bar. Needless to say, this got me in the mood for some good ol’ Wagner family juice. I figured I would open a ‘12 up since I have a half-case stashed away, just to see what we’re looking at. Rating will no doubt improve with decanting but as a P&P we have the usual sweet Fig, molasses, baking spice, Rutherford dust/dirt, blackberry cobbler, and rich plums. EDIT: Bumped the rating up from 9.2 to 9.3. After 2 hours in the decanter it’s much more integrated and pleasing to the palate. — 6 years ago
Once again Orin Swift in Napa Valley does it again. Every bottle of his Machete has a different image on the bottle - 12 in all- I really like this one. This is his Machete 2015 , yes 2015!, California Red blend of Petite Sirah. Syrah, and Grenache aged in French oak for 10 months. The color is opaque black and the legs are slow. The bouquet is blueberry pie and strawberries. The initial palate is blackberry, boysenberry, vanilla, and pepper. All my favorites!!!! Yes that is a lot of fruit, but its not sweet. There is also this oaky earthy characteristic to it. No smoke or cigar or pipe tobacco. This is as good as any 100 dollar bottle of wine!!!!!!!! The finish is short and has no lingering sourness nor bitterness. It is perfection in a glass. This is a date wine if your date likes the big bold reds. Fantastic job Mr Swift! I wish I could afford a case! — 7 years ago
Gorgeous 2009 Châteauneuf du Pape from Château du Beaucastel. Drinking very well right now. Opulent and seductive CDP displaying an elegant blend of herbs, chocolate and fruit. A lingering finish reminiscent of spice and perfume of diptyque candle that has been extinguished. This is a winner. Would someone send me a case for Xmas please? ❤️ — 7 years ago
Not as good as the 98 but still pretty enjoyable showing lots of the qualities of an older mature wine with ripe tanins and mature fruit - good bit of richness for a Pinot — 8 years ago
Annata 2013. Vino marino, mediterraneo, colore paglierino e profumi di fiori, poi mela ed erbe aromatiche. Sapido e morbido, grande bevibilità, davvero buono. — 9 years ago
An oddity for me, strange at first until a stink blew off. But what emerged was neat, very different, young Nebbiolo on steroids. — 9 years ago
“Has both elevation & density” says my friend. Aged Brouilly after I saved just one out of a case. I thought a bit awkward & it’s lost it’s plum deeper notes, but my buddy thought otherwise. Still, wished I had saved a few more for comparison. Kermit importer — 5 years ago
Absolutely Stunning! Pnp I was worried about not having time to decant since it is a 2014 but nope not the case...drinking excellent right now.
BlackBerry pie, leather, plum, and baking spices.
30 plus second finish.
Drinks well above the $55 price point. — 6 years ago

Drinking very nice. Still fresh. Last bottle from case bought as futures @ $38/btl. Great way to close out. Life is good. :) — 8 years ago
Very nice pontensac - now past it's peak but still offering great nose and length. Not very tannic - very smooth. Has a nice earthy aroma! I would recommend decanting this wine for two hours. It would be a good idea to buy a case or two of the 2003/2009/2010 vintages! — 10 years ago
When Rav is good it rocks this was the. Case — 11 years ago
Delicious mature Gigondas. Working through a half case I bought en primeur. — 5 years ago

Not so clear in terms of composition, blind tasting says it is not typical Sangiovese.
Example of organic wine before it became a mainstream. Very good balance of berries and seems like it was aging in oak 3 years. “I make Sangiovese, the rest are making coke” popular saying of the wine maker 😊 — 6 years ago
Great Pinot. Buy a case if less than $16 a bottle — 7 years ago
Another level... Still dense at the core, with steady, attractive bricking: Wonderfully dense nose of blackcurrents, pencil shavings, fine tanned leather, and a hint of woodland floor (fine moss, leaves, and fresh soil after an autumn shower). Velvety tannins and great acidity. Along with the '66 this is one of my all-time favourite Bordeaux vintages. Seems to be keeping up better than the '61s I've had over the last few years!
We drank half of it from the coravin before waxing the top in case the cork had lost too much elasticity to self-seal. I'll have the rest with my brother in a few weeks' time! — 8 years ago
Great subtle gamay. I've always loved this wine (produced organically with no added yeast). I first tried this wine around 1992. Loved it then (bought a case) and it's still great today. This family knows what's it's doing with this wine. — 8 years ago
This is bold and flavorful! It is so good. I'd totally buy a case of this. It drinks at a $32 bottle level. — 9 years ago
95 Riserva Wow! Just an amazing wine from an original OWC that I purchased on release. Dried cherry and strawberry with floral notes, very Burgundian with a feminine style. Great structure with chewy tannins. I have always said that there is no Brunello that can match Soldera and the 95 is an exceptional vintage for Soldera. — 10 years ago

Talbott’s top of the line, boldest pinot noir. Lots of strawberry — 5 years ago
