Captain Vineyards

San Francisco Bay Pinot Noir 2013

Sal Captain has crafted a refreshingly Californian PN, light-bodied, low on the oak, and high on the bright fruit flavors: red currant, blueberry, and bing cherry. — 9 years ago

Le Haut Lieu 1924 Moelleux: beautiful Ripe fruit, guava, even Passionfruit, and mango. Delightfully fragrant, with yellow and white flowers, honeysuckle, acacia and early grey tea. Superb combination of freshness, length, poise, fruit (nearly every fruit you can imagine) yellow pear, Apple, lemon, peach, and a lobby of tropicals. Long long long! Lovely vein of stony notes too. In the words of Captain Flashheart "woof!" — 11 years ago

Château Lafon-Rochet

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2008

so, this was rated on a curve. stored in a fridge in another city. fridge died in summer and it was weeks before i found it. it was baked. and then it was weirdly ok. just used it to explain to @captain henrik how get wine out of a bottle with a coravin (merry xmas, cap'n!) expecting it to be destroyed. lo and behold. second wine from that lot which wasn't ruined. the OTHER, miraculously, was the bernaudeau "sans souffre" which I'll never understand why it was ok. maybe there are wine elves sticking ice in the dead fridge until I found it.... god jul!! — 9 years ago

Wow! These folks know how to do wine. This is the way Amador County Zin is done. Great cherry bouquet, light to medium body, fruit forward, smooth mild tannin, medium finish. The winemaker is the inventor of Captain Crunch and Clif bars! A true food scientist! — 10 years ago

As we all know., Ron is insanely great at posting the absolute best tasting notes!! I'm not really sure how to begin describing a wine that he's already talked about BUT what the hell...I'll give it a shot! Here it goes:
EVERYTHING that he said was True.
Good night 👌🍷🍷👌
Just kidding! I'm not letting you off that easy!
This was was Insanely Focused. Decanted 2 hours and it was just beginning to reveal itself. My 1st time ever enjoying this Heidi project. The Howell Fruit is amazing. Focused with globs of depth and concentration. I love the initial explosion of Berry & I think dark cherries??...,,all nicely wrapped in a beautiful Oak blanket! I love the mid palate and finish. I told Ron., if this was a song it would be the bohemian Rhapsody. Perfectly orchestrated., it lifts you up., brings you down and takes forever to finish!! Ok., I gave it all I've got Captain! Lol

Naima Paestum Aglianico 2006

2006 Viticoltori de Concilis Naima Paestum IGT Aglianico. Wildflowers, dried blue and black berries, tar, fine tannins, smoke. Beautiful structure. Tobacco and black raisins from bottle aging. It went great with the charred octopus, ricotta & egg yolk gnudi, spaghetti with crab, jalapeño & scallions, Le Virtú all'Abruzzese rare wild salmon. An excellent recommendation by Del Posto NYC's consummate captain and host extraordinaire, Denis Rossi. — 12 years ago
