Could crush a few of these. Top class. — 7 years ago
Disclaimer: I am drinking these too young...
Intense Ruby color with a purple rim. Explosion of red and blue fruit on the nose. Medium body, very smooth and fruity. Slight tannins on the medium+ to long finish. As it opened in the glass, sweet spice flavors and aromas started to emerge. Very good wine and fun to drink. As usual, great work from Morgan and Chris! — 8 years ago

Winemaker Sam Smith used grapes from from northern and central Monterey County to create the 2017 G 17 Syrah. It’s one of those only-in-America blends featuring two grape varieties of the Rhône Valley and one from Spain. The mix is 87% Syrah, 9% Grenache and 4% Tempranillo. It was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, a quarter of which were new. The grapes came primarily from the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco Appellations of Monterey County. Alcohol hits 14.4% abv and it retails for $22. Just under 1200 cases were made.
The first whiffs of this medium dark ruby wine are pretty boozy, but they're loaded with black berries, tobacco, smoke, leather and spices. The palate picks up black cherry and a ladle of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. The wine drinks surprisingly gentle, with enough tannic structure for roast or pork. A medium finish is noteworthy and is missed when it fades away. — 6 years ago

Tart cherry on nose upon opening confirmed tartness on 1st sip. Controlled oak and subtle tannins.....after 20 minutes Bing cherry and ripe strawberry with a hint of dirt and leather to round out the finish. Drinking well good balance of structure and finesse. — 8 years ago

Candied fruit, reminiscent of gamay. Generous fruit, fantastic finesse. Great find from the Lodi AVA, showcasing the best of two varieties. — 10 years ago

This is really as great a Californian wine as one can muster. It is rich without being decadent, redolent with sweet fruit without being heavy or glazed as so many wines are, complex without being overextracted, and sun-kissed without being alcoholic or pruney. With 20 varietals in this field blend, and in the flatlands below Monte Rosso and Moon Mountain, maybe calling this terroir-driven is a stretch. It is more history-driven, and a testament to the duo who have put the effort into preserving it: @Chris Cottrell and @Morgan Twain-Peterson — 7 years ago
This amazing 2009 Morgan from Gary's Vineyard is one of the absolute best California pinots I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. I managed to get 3 bottles over a 2 year period. The more it breathed, the more it dominated the room! — 7 years ago
So well put together. Deep fruit, vibrant with nice acidity as always from Morgan. Even tastier and more layered on day 2. — 8 years ago
