I know a few of you know about the Cape Winemakers Guild. If not I highly recommend trying to hunt them down or make it out to SA for it.
Deep garnet ruby red. A bit stinky on the nose with savory, meaty, and gamey notes. A touch smoky too with a touch of sweet spices and red berries undertone. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Dark fruit on the attack with solid stoney notes. Some sweet spices too and more red fruits coming through. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2027. — 7 years ago

Marina notes on the nose. Briny salt air on palate. Black pepper. Tart cherry. Blackberry. — 7 years ago
all the characteristics I profess to dislike but this wine put it all together seamlessly. Still wonderfully fresh and a joy to drink — 8 years ago
This was the #1 wine rated 100 points by Cape Wine Makers Guild. Enjoyed this over a n amazing lunch at Jordan Wine Farm in Stellenboch South Africa. The 2009 Chard was smooth and delightful! — 8 years ago
Like most wines in today's line-up: marred by alcohol...
Loved the aromatics, quite evolved already... — 10 years ago

Last of the blind reds for this quarter's S&E Wine Club. Theme was Chardonnays for white wine and red wines you can purchase at grocery stores. The fourth and fifth red were higher end and did not stick to the theme.
Deep ruby red. Iron on the attack of the nose, a touch of barnyard, red berries, touch of herbs, spices and green bell peppers. A bit of heat too. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium plus body. Rich dark red fruits on the palate with undertones of spices, wood, olives and toasty or smoky. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2027.
Made up of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Shiraz. (92+) — 7 years ago
@David L this is one of the wines we were talking about from the Cape Winemakers Guild and it's still a baby.
Fourth red wine of the night. Super dark, deep garnet and ruby red. Slightly tight with lovely earthiness, a little greenery and bright red cherries. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) with an insane backbone and structure from acidity. Full bodied with tons of red cherries and dark cocoa. Needs a ton of time but in a few years this will be singing. Long and lingering finish. Drink from 2018 till 2038. (94+) — 8 years ago
Usually SA wines don't rock my boat, but this was really gorgeous. — 10 years ago
Well balanced, very nice classic touch. Aromas of vegetable soup, red paprika are slightly too apparent. — 10 years ago
