Gorgeous wine. Nose is cracking. Classic Greco with cracked seahshells, salty, lanolin, barely any fruit just a sense of fruit. Decidedly mineral yet very expressive in that way only Italian whites can be. Palate is engaging and crispy with lovely playful minerality and almost a Rieslingesque vibe. Pure and very sappy. Clean as a whistle. Juicy and deep. Excellent length, crispness and clarity. Lovely concentration and grip. So pure. Long. — 6 years ago

A big white. Unexpected power and acid. #rawwinela — 8 years ago
Poggio al Tufo is a relatively new estate in the once swampy Maremma in coastal Tuscany. Tommasi, of Amarone fame planted vineyards here in 1997. The Alicante Bouschet grape is new to Tuscany, although getting more popular. This wine is a deep purple in the glass , delivering pepper, black fruits and smoke to the palate. Tannins are still a little harsh so this will benefit from another year or two in the bottle. Interesting wine from this interesting grape.

Deep amber from 36 hrs skin contact; complex leesy nose and taste from 6 mos on lees. Apple skin, some pear notes. Acid comes thru well; flavors verge on oxidation but very satisfying, would be great with food. — 8 years ago
Pretty pale straw color with fresh, citrusy aromas. Notes of apricots and peaches, with just a tad bit of nuttiness. Nice minerality with crisp acidity. — 10 years ago
Spectacular Greco di tufo from mag. Textural and weighty, clean and refreshing. Killer stuff. Tasted at Tre Bicchieri in Chicago — 10 years ago

Cloudy in the glass, shy nose, but explodes on the palate. Rich, amazing weight and complexity. Light in alcohol, but heavy flavors of ripe pear, apple, melon, fig. Nice fruit/acid balance but the wine is shocking in its power. I need to buy more of this Pinot Bianco/Greco do Tufo blend. Lots more appeal than Sauv Blanc or Chard. Long, booming finish! — 5 years ago
Second time having this, but a different vintage. Full bodied. The colour is purple... electric. Very big. Needs some time to mellow out. — 6 years ago
Really quite excellent. Amber in the glass, but full of verve. Really deep lemon citrus flavors but with a bit of heavier white fruit as well. Delicious with a long and acidic finish. — 6 years ago
Intense aromas of fruit and flowers. Very juicy on the palate, balanced acidity, mineral finish. — 7 years ago
Beautiful on the nose, citrus with vanilla finish — 8 years ago
One of the more interesting whites out there. Nice briney quality without any malo side effects. Great effort! — 8 years ago
Remember that time a patron asked you to describe a wine and you used the term, "mineral", or some variation thereof? Well, I regret to inform... you were wrong. It's okay though, you had no idea. Taste this guy and consider your game CHANGED.
