This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 7 years ago

Heavy, long finish. Gentle on the palate, but smooth finish and best served a little chilled. Allow to open and breathe. — 9 years ago

The third wine of the evening this past Saturday was the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Jongen Windmill Ranch Estate Grenache. This was my particular favorite but all three that night were splendid.
The nose gives notes of black cherry, blackberry, light tobacco, vanilla, floral notes, spice and earth.
On the palate there was black cherry, raspberry, a bit of strawberry, black currant, licorice, allspice, herbal notes and a good earth component.
The wine is fleshy medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and high grippy tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. Enjoy your start of the weekend and please be safe. — 7 years ago
Winery is family-run & has links with the wine world going back 3 generations. Founded by Emilio Moro who was born in Pesquera de Duero, a prominent Spanish wine area. Made from grapes of old vineyards, between 25 and 75 years old, from the Camino Viejo estate. Malleolus is a Latin word meaning “small hammer or mallet” used in planting, and “majuelo” Spanish for “young vine” a traditional way of referring to a vineyard in Pesquera del Duero. Deep red subtle fruit aromas with espresso and smoky notes. Blackberry & cherry with vanilla spice on full lush tannins needing more time. Well balanced, complex, lingering with earthy finish. — 7 years ago
Blue and black fruit with sweet spices, ash, and menthol. Definitely decant! — 8 years ago
Outstanding aged Navarra. Ready to drink now. Earthy raisin notes, but holding on to the right amount of smooth acidity. 70% Tempranillo, 30% Cab, 13.5% alc #garagiste — 8 years ago

Curious, so I decided to open up one of these while waiting for someone to help me consume the other half.... This wine is youthful, and for that reason is a bit out of balance from the previous wine I remembered and scored quite a bit higher than this one. This wine is a 93 right now, with potential for a 96-97 IMO. The fruit in front is massive. Black cherry, black licorice, but as @Shay A was mentioning there is a red fruity kind of touch to this one and I completely agree. The middle is a little bit muted vs. the previous vintage. The finish is quite peppery, toasted oak. Tons of potential on this full bodied Moon Mountain monster. Hold for the next 10 years. — 6 years ago

Deep ruby. Black cherry, sweet spices hints. Rich, long lenght. — 7 years ago
Violet meniscus. Hedonistic blackberry, blueberry and truffle nose. Entry is full throttle blackberry pie, blueberry and vanilla. Youthful. Crushed rock limestone type of middle on a dense blackberry core. Tannic, yes, but sweeter side...almost a cinnamon graham cracker finish that is full and long. Not too sure where this vineyard is located compared to Kamen but this could be an identical twin...at a 45 dollar price tag! Emailing to see how much more of this is available, if any! — 7 years ago
On the sweeter side, a great screened in porch sipper. — 8 years ago
