what french fries couldn't use a drizzle of jus? (the #wine: Camel & Joseph St.-Chinian Les Terroirs 2014 - gorgeous, soft, ripe plums & cocoa - and at LOW end of list; lesson: go Languedoc Roussillon for value on #French wine lists). At superb #lecoqriconyc — 8 years ago
Perfectly balanced and nicely restrained. Pure black fruit with finely grained tannins and juicy acidity. Nice depth and structure, with the 14% alc perfectly integrated. Beautiful drinking. — 8 years ago

Some already know, but many might not and you need to know that German Pinot Noir has arrived! Not Spatburgunder, but Fruhburgunder, which is an early ripening Pinot Noir. Called Pinot Madeline in France and Early Burgundy in CA.
Burgundy will always be the mecca of Pinot Noir, but there have been numerous articles, opinion pieces, discussions and arguments as to where the best Pinot Noir is made outside of Burgundy. Well, if this Joseph Walter is any indication the reds from Franken have something to say and we all need to listen up.
Transparent, pure, with complete terroir reflection of rock and mineral, sweet spices and a touch of underbrush (stem inclusion?), all accenting a fine dose of bright red berry fruits. Supple, fine and slightly austere tannin frames an elegant but persistent finish. #franken — 8 years ago
Cant decide on this one. Austere to me, J says smoky. — 9 years ago

Have had some good and some fair bottles of this, from various vintages. I think Chave’s St. Joseph is one of the best wines and greatest values in the Northern Rhone but Offerus, his Negoce wine, is a bit lighter. This hits all the right notes: still lovey black and blue fruit and a nose redolent of grilled meat and olives with a bit of wood spice. Middleweight and amply acidic this is just really nice all around, if lacking the depth and persistence of the domaine St. J. — 8 years ago
Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a 4th generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot almost looks like a Cab) with aromas of ripe berries and spice notes. The palate shows rich black fruits, blackberries, plums and black cherries, vanilla spice, cedar and cacao. Rich soft tannins, firm acidity on lingering finish ending with mineral tones. Nice! — 8 years ago
Magnum 1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Drank at Archetype lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Second of the red lineup, following a magnum of 1975 Heitz. Much bigger and its youth showed. Lovely wine that we all really enjoyed. — 9 years ago
Unfortunately, somewhat closed at this point, even after a double decant. On the nose, hints of olives and spice. Missing the violets I want from a S-J. In the mouth, dark fruit and black olives. Medium-long finish. Needs time, but may not flesh out to what I would like it to be. Bought at the winery in France circa 2006. — 9 years ago
The Marsanne, Terret and Rousanne Mixed perfectly in this wine. Nice nose and a long taste. — 10 years ago
Purple ruby, bilberries and plums on the nose, dry, smooth tannins with dark fruits, spice and black pepper. Ripe, drinking well - enjoyably well. — 11 years ago

Sipping Fine Wine
Vidal Fleury was founded in 1781 by Joseph Vidal functioning as the oldest winery in the Rhone Valley. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, dark red, aromas of black berry fruits and floral scents. On the palate big red berry fruits notes of cacao and spice. Soft tannins showing maturity, lingering ending with a good hold on the fruit and spice. Consistent quality. Very nice, great to drink now. — 6 years ago
