A big and sumptuous Pinot with all the hallmarks of Gippsland. For me, lacks the acid line to clean up the big fruit. I like the wine, it's Central Otago like in that it's bigger and firmer..... But for me it's got a ways to go before it's great. — 9 years ago
Dream Chardonnay, the only stand up match to the 2012 Farr. Different levels. — 9 years ago
Excellent Viognier, visited the winery. — 11 years ago
Catching up with old wine notes now that I’m spending more time at home. Aromas of earth, mushrooms, beetroot, root vegetables in general. Afterwards - dried rose petals. Easily Premier Cru standard. The palate is intense, fluid, long and very Burgundian - the most of any Australian Pinot although I am hearing wonderful things about By Farr Serre. A sooty tarry earthy element developed after a while. A brilliant Pinot Noir. — 4 years ago
A vibrant, fruity, easy drinking light red. Got high acidity and red fruits (raspberry) note. Love the slight bubbly feeling this wine brings to both sides of the tongue. — 8 years ago
One of the best Australian wines and from a lesser know region (Gelong) — 9 years ago
Was suggested as a worthy replacement for the By Farr saignee and it was indeed! — 6 years ago
The 2008 Trotanoy is a ferociously backward Pomerol that did not engage at Farr’s horizontal. Another bottle served over lunch that had undergone a long decanting was far more representative. It has a gorgeous bouquet with raspberry and menthol, a little dark chocolate and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with ample freshness and vigor although it clearly demands a long aeration to really click into fifth gear. This is a multi-dimensional Trotanoy that probably needs another couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2018) — 6 years ago
Perfumed berries on the nose. Light berries (raspberry, strawberry) come to the fore in a gentle way but with enough structure and length ensuring the flavour doesn't dissipate. Really nice. — 8 years ago
12 year old Pinot. From the start I'm shaking my head. The cherry nose is unbelievably strong. Sweet cherry nose - one of the most amazing smells I've ever had. Strong alcohol for a Pinot 13.5%. Flavours are over-powering - strongly over-powering - cherry - acid still there and a long longer. So unexpected - Gary Farr - hats off and bowing - how do you do this? I think this is amazing! Personally a little more subtle would get a better rating from me - 3/7/9 = 19.5 out of 100 = 93 — 9 years ago
