Gippsland Pinot Noir 2013

A big and sumptuous Pinot with all the hallmarks of Gippsland. For me, lacks the acid line to clean up the big fruit. I like the wine, it's Central Otago like in that it's bigger and firmer..... But for me it's got a ways to go before it's great. — 9 years ago

Bass Phillip

Premium Gippsland Pinot Noir 2010

Catching up with old wine notes now that I’m spending more time at home. Aromas of earth, mushrooms, beetroot, root vegetables in general. Afterwards - dried rose petals. Easily Premier Cru standard. The palate is intense, fluid, long and very Burgundian - the most of any Australian Pinot although I am hearing wonderful things about By Farr Serre. A sooty tarry earthy element developed after a while. A brilliant Pinot Noir. — 4 years ago

Arguably the best pinot from Australia. Your thoughts?

@Ron R I think so Ron. Perhaps bettered by Bass Phillip’s Reserve if you can find it. The 2017 last year released at $625 per bottle. All relative I guess - cheap compared to a Grand Cru. Rob Geddes MW said that Bass Phillip has produced some of the best Pinot he has drunk from anywhere worldwide which is a big call. Tassie is producing some great Pinot like Tolpuddle, Chatto and Home Hill. Also By Farr from Geelong.

Not forgetting Bindi Block 5 and Yabby Lake but if you had to pick one it would be Bass Phillip IMO.

Farr Rising Gamay 2015

A vibrant, fruity, easy drinking light red. Got high acidity and red fruits (raspberry) note. Love the slight bubbly feeling this wine brings to both sides of the tongue. — 8 years ago

Geelong Chardonnay 2013

Straw gold in colour, peach and butterscotch on the palate; the fruit, oak and acid in perfect balance with a beautiful mouthfeel. A lovely wine and would reward another couple of years in the cellar. 92 pts. — 9 years ago

Château Trotanoy

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2008 Trotanoy is a ferociously backward Pomerol that did not engage at Farr’s horizontal. Another bottle served over lunch that had undergone a long decanting was far more representative. It has a gorgeous bouquet with raspberry and menthol, a little dark chocolate and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with ample freshness and vigor although it clearly demands a long aeration to really click into fifth gear. This is a multi-dimensional Trotanoy that probably needs another couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2018) — 6 years ago

Sangreal Pinot Noir 2009

Perfumed berries on the nose. Light berries (raspberry, strawberry) come to the fore in a gentle way but with enough structure and length ensuring the flavour doesn't dissipate. Really nice. — 8 years ago

Bannockburn

Geelong Pinot Noir 2003

12 year old Pinot. From the start I'm shaking my head. The cherry nose is unbelievably strong. Sweet cherry nose - one of the most amazing smells I've ever had. Strong alcohol for a Pinot 13.5%. Flavours are over-powering - strongly over-powering - cherry - acid still there and a long longer. So unexpected - Gary Farr - hats off and bowing - how do you do this? I think this is amazing! Personally a little more subtle would get a better rating from me - 3/7/9 = 19.5 out of 100 = 93 — 9 years ago

Cherry was too over powering for me. That too sweet to have anymore came over me. Great that it held the nose and robust flavour for that long though.
