Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

Amazing wine. While of course still young, the magic of the red label from the master in ‘07 was in full form tonight wafting a captivating bouquet of Christmas spices, rose pedals, licorice, worn leather and a menthol freshness. A stunning perfume. The palate shows incredible richness and density yet without weight nor heat, and the most luxurious of textures that wraps around the mouth before its multi-minute finish. Wow. — 6 months ago

Vieilles Vignes La Combe d'Orveaux Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

I reckon BH’s notes on this are pretty spot on for my experience (expect the part on the Noirots), so here it is:

“Once again, there is a subtle though not invisible application of wood that still easily allows the airy, cool and restrained aromas of various red berries, and in particular cherry, floral and a mildly exotic whiff of dried orange peel. The energetic and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors are much finer if less powerful than those of the Noirots while display notably more minerality as well on the compact, serious and built-to-age finale. This is a wine of finesse and refinement but the flavor authority is impressive as is the tannic spine.”

WOTN for most I believe. Showed well with air, but clearly some tightness at the start. Loved the energy here. Very promising!

Nebbiolo d'Alba 2021

Bright Ruby color with aromas of red berry fruits, spice and floral notes, aged for 14 months in French oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and strawberry with spice, licorice and floral notes. Fine chewy tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, floral spice and slight earthy character. Nice! — 3 months ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2011

Crimson-black in glass with dark brick rim. Brief decant. So gamey, wild berries on the nose, but very alive game; on palate quite seamless tannins but that ferocious- ness is in every sip. More of those red fruits but beef jerky too. Dark blood, juicy. The delicate structure of an aged Nebbiolo, with rose petal accents, meets a Bandol, covered in horse dung. Fascinating experience as hadn’t had an aged Rotie…ever? — 6 months ago

Absolutely gorgeous tonight, with red label stardom, continuing to get better and better in the decanter wafting waves of roses, black cherries, exotic spices and tea leaves. It has immense richness but also so fresh and detailed. There is incredible density yet without weight. An amazing combination of power and elegance. — 7 months ago

Solid CSJ, widely considered a Grand Cru equivalent. But for those who wonder if Fourrier and Rousseau’s CSJ’s are that much better to be more than double the price, the answer is yes. — 2 years ago
