Riserva Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

One of the best wines I’ve had in my life. Truly spectacular. All the things were there. Structure, balance, the fruits of Barolo, all of it. No sense in going over it. Memorable to say the least — 5 years ago

Bricco Bussia Vigna Cicala Barolo Nebbiolo 1985

Wow, floral, faint road tar, this twin Barolo tastes 20 years younger than the Colonello, so rich, so YOUTHFUL, so complex, super long and lingering finish, really close to, if not there already, perfect!! — 9 months ago

Bricco Delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

Medium ruby color with aromas of ripe red fruits and elegant hints of floral. On the palate flavors of black cherry, raspberry and plum with hints of fig and tobacco. Tannins are fine and round, a tad young with high acidity noted. The finish is medium, smooth and ends with oak and earthy mineral notes. Very nice. Needs time. — 4 years ago

Vigna San Giuseppe Riserva Bricco Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

2013 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and after 30 mins. Reticent nose. Medium-heavy body. Massive flavors and structure. Wouldn’t open it any time soon. Phenomenal now but so so intense. If you can Potsie it for a decade plus, do so. Another reminder as to why Barolo is the wine of kings. 11.01.24. — 8 months ago

Paolo Scavino

Bricco Ambrogio Barolo Nebbiolo 2020

“Bricco Ambrogio” stands alone as the only MGA in the tiny commune of Roddi and it’s almost completely under vine. In fact, the most prominent geological feature in Roddi is the hill of Bricco Ambrogio. While the Lodali family were the first to bottle a single expression, back in the late 1970’s, we largely have Paolo Scavino to thank for the growth of its reputation as a source of depth and balanced Barolo over the last 20+ years.

The 2020 “Bricco Ambrogio” pours a bright, luminous garnet color; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and predominately red fruited with notes of Morello cherry, cranberry, raspberry, rosebushes, tar, dried green herbs, cedar chest, spices, and gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finishes long, grippy and spicy. A lovely Bricco Ambrogio with beautiful balance and sneaky power; arguably the benchmark for the MGA. Drinking well now in its youth (thank you 2020) but will surely gain complexity after 2030 and deliver smiles through 2040+.

Bricco Mollea Dogliani Dolcetto 2019

Very nice Dolcetto from the Dogliani appellation. Beautiful crimson color. Beautiful fruit forward nose, but with no hint of being cloying. Mouth filling with a nice fresh finish. Some drying tannins but not in an unbalanced way. Excellent qpr at ~$17. — 5 years ago

Bricco Fasêt Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2009

A very good wine although at the price, -$50, there are better options such as the Produttori. Fruit forward and earthy, a bit too ‘big’ for my tastes in Barbaresco — 5 years ago
