Second stop on day three and finally made it to Napa. We tasted through some wines from Standard Deviation Wines and Addax Wines with Josh and Cheryl at Brasswood. First up for Addax Wines is the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from a couple high end vineyards. Aged in 100% new French oak and only eight barrels produced. Made by Russell Bevan.
Medium to deep golden yellow. Rich nose with baked apples, marzipan and buttered popcorn. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and full bodied. Creamy citrus elements on the palate with some baked apples, nutty and some tropical notes too. Long and lingering finish. Big and powerful Chardonnay. Drink till 2027.

12/31/17 - finally breaking into this bottle we bought on our Napa trip. As good as I remember, if not better! — 7 years ago
Aug 12.
First wine at Lightning Wines that we are tasting today at Brasswood in Saint Helena. Clear and pale yellow. Very fruity and floral on the nose with notes of white peaches, water lilies, and a mix of citrus. Very crisp and refreshing with moderate acidity (7/10) and light bodied. Lots of lemon and unripe tropical fruits, something like melon. Would be interesting to taste over multiple hours to see how it develops. Long and lingering finish, nice and tangy. Drink till 2022. (90+)
No racking with partial malolactic fermentation. Aged in 2/3 neutral French oak (old Chardonnay barrels) and 1/3 Stainless Steel. All co-fermented; 55% Grenache Blanc, 30% Piquepol Blanc and 15% Marsanne. — 8 years ago
MUY Simpatico. 13 blend of mostly CS and CF. Delicious. This was our Brasswood BYOB and paired ridiculously well with their Margherita Pizza. Well....it paired well with the entire night, so I guess the wine is properly named?? Floral nose, red cherry entry, black cherry finish. Peppery, a little tannic, a little herbal. LOVE this William Harrison blend. — 7 years ago
2016 barrel sample - Blend of Sugarloaf Merlot and Tench Cabernet. All I can say is... Wow 😍 This is outstanding; juicy, smokey, complex, layered. Crushed berries that have been turned into rich, velvet drapes.
Enjoying lunch at Brasswood with the owners of Addax who I am privileged to call friends and the man himself, Russell Bevan. — 7 years ago
Finally have a bit of time to update my tasting notes from my visit to Napa the past few days. Did a bit of work for Montagu Wines, and enjoyed a ridiculous amount of wine, and good wine at that.
Russell Bevan is making wine at Brasswood, where we are for Montagu, so it was great meeting the larger than life man that he is. He was kind enough to share a glass of his Tin Box cab with us while we were all together and this wine represents him perfectly. This is a bold, in your face cab, that blows big fruit on the nose, and gripping tannins that want to beat you like a pulp, then let go just as soft as they were strong. Big boy cab, ladies and gentlemen. — 9 years ago
Second stop on day three and finally made it to Napa. We tasted through some wines from Standard Deviation Wines and Addax Wines with Josh and Cheryl at Brasswood. Next up for Addax Wines is the Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir from Rita's Crown Vineyard. Only 75 cases produced. Made by Russell Bevan.
Deep and dark ruby red with purplish hues. A touch creamy on the nose with purple flowers, roses, strawberries, twigs, dark red berries and cinnamon. Balanced tannins (6/10) and mouthwatering acidity (6.5/10) with a full body. A bit jammy in a good way on the palate with an underlying richness of spices, toasty elements, flowers, black fruits and red berries. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2027.

Bibiana came to Brasswood yesterday to talk about her wines and her storyline from Columbia to France to California. Showed her Donum Pinot and Russian river Chardonnay and Soberanes Syrah to the entire staff, barside. When asked about the obstacles to overcome in making fine wine here as opposed to there she answered, " there are no obstacles to making fine wine here in California. The obstacle is to do it , have access to the fruit and a means to make it. Otherwise , all preferences are for this place, California ." — 8 years ago
