Great balance, good price! — 8 years ago
This is a super, anise forward wine, with a deep leather finish. Something fun to drink with friends. — 9 years ago
Opened musty and you could smell an earthen cave. But the dark fruit and subtle spice is great. — 10 years ago
1978 Viura de San Vicente made by Alejandro Montana. Consumed in a subterranean cave in Haro, Rioja. Still has lots of fruit! Stunning wine! — 12 years ago
The 2014 ‘Villa de Corullon’ by Bodega Palacios is a superb showing from this storied Bierzo estate. Sourced 50-100 year old Mencia vines from the municipality of Corullon, just south of San Martin, this incredible new wine shows really good aromatic range, from white pepper and vegetal tones to black tea, black currant purée and exotic spices that all are marvelously woven together in the glass. Beautifully textured, the wine shows off a soft and inviting mouthfeel. Chinese black tea, wild blackberry preserves and suggestions of pipe tobacco and leather all come together on the palate. Hugely enjoyable in its youth, this outstanding wine will cellar well for the next fifteen years. Drink 2019-2035- 93 — 7 years ago

Had it at a wonderful Argentinian restaurant in San José, CR. Black cherry/peppery. Delicious. — 12 years ago
San antonio bobs steak and chophouse. Darioush was better at that pricepoint. Nuttier and spicier than darioush. — 7 years ago

This one has one of the best values among the under $20s. Medium bodied with savoury berry taste, I'm pleasantly surprised :) — 9 years ago

Delicious. One of the best Languedoc blends I’ve tasted this side of France. Of course, in France, — all over France, in supermarchés and corner tabacs, let alone actual wine shops, devoted to the finest expressions of the noble grape — one has access to scores and scores of offerings from small producers who take pride in terroir handed down over generations and all manner of wine-making techniques to coax all manner of flavors from various grapes, handed down over scads more generations.
What’s this got to do with this particular wine?
Glad you asked! For under thirty bucks, in San Francisco (i.e., what locals here call “free”) at Costco, you can taste all these generations of wine making in this bottle. Many layers of flavors. Blended and buoyant and long lasting. Good after thirty minutes if breathing in the decanter. Better after an hour. Best the next day.
