Not your typical California or French Rose, but $14.00 on sale it works
Definitely will decant my 2nd bottling
Winery Notes,
Honorío Rubio is a Riojano white and rosé specialist. In a land best known for its incredibly age-worthy reds, among many die-hards out there it is undoubtedly the traditional whites which represent Rioja's finest and most original wines. We would add as well the barrel aged rosés, which are incredibly rare (Lopez de Heredia's has not been available for over 5 years, and we hear that they will finally have a little bit of the next release, 2008, in 2018!) Honorío makes an absolutely killer rosé, from some of his oldest Viura and Garnacha, briefly macerated and co-fermented, then aged 16 months in used barrels (which previously held his Lias Finas white wine). An inimitable, rich and bright, incredibly food friendly style of rosé. — 4 years ago
Curious, so I decided to open up one of these while waiting for someone to help me consume the other half.... This wine is youthful, and for that reason is a bit out of balance from the previous wine I remembered and scored quite a bit higher than this one. This wine is a 93 right now, with potential for a 96-97 IMO. The fruit in front is massive. Black cherry, black licorice, but as @Shay A was mentioning there is a red fruity kind of touch to this one and I completely agree. The middle is a little bit muted vs. the previous vintage. The finish is quite peppery, toasted oak. Tons of potential on this full bodied Moon Mountain monster. Hold for the next 10 years. — 5 years ago
Violet meniscus. Hedonistic blackberry, blueberry and truffle nose. Entry is full throttle blackberry pie, blueberry and vanilla. Youthful. Crushed rock limestone type of middle on a dense blackberry core. Tannic, yes, but sweeter side...almost a cinnamon graham cracker finish that is full and long. Not too sure where this vineyard is located compared to Kamen but this could be an identical twin...at a 45 dollar price tag! Emailing to see how much more of this is available, if any! — 6 years ago
On the sweeter side, a great screened in porch sipper. — 7 years ago

Second time with this bottling and an equally stellar experience. This producer works magic with her rosados. Flat out some of the best I’ve ever had. Deep ruby red, with strawberry fruit and a crushed candy nose. Mouth is tart, salty, taffy textured, leesy, with an umami wave. All the savory components integrate seemlessly with the fruit. Super length. What a great wine. — 4 years ago
Excellent with red meat. We loved it — 5 years ago

The third wine of the evening this past Saturday was the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Jongen Windmill Ranch Estate Grenache. This was my particular favorite but all three that night were splendid.
The nose gives notes of black cherry, blackberry, light tobacco, vanilla, floral notes, spice and earth.
On the palate there was black cherry, raspberry, a bit of strawberry, black currant, licorice, allspice, herbal notes and a good earth component.
The wine is fleshy medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and high grippy tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. Enjoy your start of the weekend and please be safe. — 6 years ago

Grenache Blanc is my favorite white varietal and the boys at Waylan do it right!!! This vintage is like a Kelsea Ballerini song, light and happy with some a little bit of edge. — 4 years ago
gorgeous. a big, juicy wine but completely under control and balanced. tart cherry, thyme, leathery tannins. — 5 years ago

This wine was awesome. Still soft and elegant and barely tertiary. 53 years later and still delivering. @Jason Stein we need to have this together #italianwines — 6 years ago
This past Saturday I attended a get together with close friends. We opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons Family Tree Rhone Blend. 55% Grenache, 27% Mourvedre and 18% Syrah. This was the hit of the evening that turned heads and got people talking.
The nose was light with cherry, raspberry, plum, cinnamon, black pepper, anise, roses and an earthy gravel.
On the palate was beautiful fruit of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black pepper, anise , clove and a good gravel component.
The wine was soft velvety smooth with a medium mouth feel and medium to plus acidity with medium smooth tannin that leads to a medium long finish. A very enjoyable wine. Almost the weekend please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 6 years ago
Blue and black fruit with sweet spices, ash, and menthol. Definitely decant! — 7 years ago
Outstanding aged Navarra. Ready to drink now. Earthy raisin notes, but holding on to the right amount of smooth acidity. 70% Tempranillo, 30% Cab, 13.5% alc #garagiste — 7 years ago
Frankincense and myrrh, I feel like I am in a manger scene hanging out with some kings. Toast, roasted wood and oaky aromas open up to spice seasoning with a lashing of salt and acidity. Made in a solera style from multiple vintages this is a unique wine in every way. A heady Viura Rioja blanco experience, I highly recommend it. #newschoolrioja — 8 years ago
This 2013 is nice and fruity, and a great value. Has crushed it with both pork and tuna! — 9 years ago
12 months in barique, 6 bottles in case, sales for $41.00 about. Pungeant nose, very earthy, wet wool, red fruit, Akilia comes from the word Aguila in Latin. Lots of strawberries and red fruits, very well balanced. 8/10 a bit expensive — 11 years ago

We love this varietal every year we are fortunate enough to receive it. The crispness of the fruit sings through & always brings us back to the ECR vineyards. — 4 years ago
