Crushed berry, blackstrap licorice & pink peppercorn capture the nose as notes of freshly balanced dark cherry & mouth melting carpaccio lace the palate. What can I say? Deep, glass-clinging red purple in the glass; bear black with dark magenta highlights in a drinking pour. Big, bosomy nose of cobblered blueberries and blackstrap molasses. Brooding yet fruit-forward palate and greying dark berries and some ash supported by medium, velvety tannins. This is a treat. Not too serious, but not frivolous at all. Enjoy on its own or with charred barbecue meats by 2017. — 11 years ago

Such intense concentration for a wine of 17 years--opened w powerful dark fruit, blackstrap, and vanilla bean paste aromas. Over a few hours developed into some gamey leather, roasted coffee bean, dusty old cigar box, and shriveled red cherries and prunes. This one needs the whole evening to shine--don't waste your time or money if you're only gonna see the first act! — 10 years ago

mouth = yucky, b/c the kale salad totally jammed up our taste buds :(
Day 2: nose = choc covered cherries, soy, heat
