Spicy finish and earthy through and through. Do we taste a hint of black licorice?? Don says it's a 9.0 today but it will be a 10+ in a few years! — 9 years ago
Dark ruby in color with a brick rim.
Light fruits on the nose with blackberries, cherries, blueberries, strawberries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cedar, cloves and light black pepper.
Full-bodied and smooth, with high acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with oak, cola, vanilla, blackberries, blueberries, figs, cherries, earth, black pepper and dirt.
Long finish with firm tannins.
This is a great 9 year old, Unfiltered, Cabernet Sauvignon from Israel. Nicely aged and drinks well right now by itself, or with a big piece of steak.
Great as a sipping wine too.
Smooth and elegant with a nice balance.
90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Aged for 21 months in mainly French Oak barrels.
14% alcohol by volume. — 9 years ago
Was pretty unimpressed upon opening, but really came to life in an unexpected way the next day. Fresh leather, spiced cherry, star anise, sweet dirt, cedarwood, truffle, black licorice candy. Rich and long on the palate, with a bit of jamminess- from the Syrah undoubtedly. — 9 years ago
Fruity, light bodied and low bitterness — 10 years ago
An offer from my room mate. This wine is a few days old and starting to show some signs of oxidation, but definitely still has some life left. Black pepper and dirt on the nose. You definitely get the black pepper on the palate as well, but with some nice red fruit that isn't overly ripe. A wine that's got enough body and tannic structure to pair well with meat and cheese, but is also perfectly fine on its own. He says it was $10, which means this is a killer bargain wine. — 10 years ago
Does the word BOMB-SHIZZLE ring a bell? Rich black fruit with that special something... Schist! Look it up... Perfect mineral composition. And dirt cheap. This stuff is the schist. Yeah ok I said it. — 11 years ago
2008. Dried cherry, black tea, dried mushroom and rose, prosciutto. Minerality is reminiscent of standing on a dry, dusty dirt road. Only criticism is that it falls off in the mid palate, but finishes with a nice gamey note. — 11 years ago
The Store "Serve U Liquor" has it for $45 in DC. — 8 years ago
Smells like walking between rows of bright crisp golden delicious apples that have been freshly picked. Delicate and light with some astringency. Black currants. Alcohol is clearly present on the linger. Update after being open a day: the nose has changed and developed into a distinctly 'dirt floor cellar' and mildew and it is still delightfully light and delicate, but falls off. — 9 years ago
Translucent ruby. Great nose with black cherry, violets, gravel stone, dirt, cola and a little menthol. Very balanced texture in the mouth. Smooth and herbal in a good way. Tannins nicely integrated. Great now but no need to hurry and drink these. — 9 years ago
As is usual with Randall Grahm’s wines, savory hits first, and hardest. With almost two-thirds of the grapes from the great Bien Nacido Vineyard, one might expect a dark and savory nature in this wine. Grahm, however, seems to wring more of those qualities from that great soil than other winemakers. The nose is Rhônishly funky. Meat? Don't be a jerky. Forest floor? Scrape some off your shoe. Santa Maria Valley dirt? In spades. The palate allows for more black and blue berries to show, but that darkness permeates the flavors, too. Meat, spice and cigars all come to mind. The more nerality of this wine is apparent in every whiff and sip. — 9 years ago
On the nose, a lot of raspberry jam with some woody notes and heavy alcohol. On the tongue, tart at first but finishes off wth a good bit of dirt, autumn leaves, blackberry, and hint of black pepper. Lightly tannic. Overall a solid vintage. Would age well. — 10 years ago
Rediscovered in the pantry.... Left behind by my father, who always enjoys a good bourbon. — 11 years ago
Black fruit and dirt on nose with delicious earthy black fruit up front. Ned to full. Good length. Drank over 2 nights and consistent both nights $25 decent QPR 88 — 11 years ago
Picked up in Nantes, France. Taste a lot like the 12yr to me which costs about the same but at least you get a full 750mls — 11 years ago
Extremely ripe, with dirt and spice on the finish. Delicious. Black cherry on the finish. — 7 years ago
With a little decanting the fruit really shines. Such dirt and grit and old world thickness and mouthfeel. But all those black fruits dedicated. With figs and bay leaf and tarragon. A meal in itself. Just lovely. — 9 years ago
Overripe black Cherry, raisins, fresh cut Violet's, and that always present wet dirt component I have decided to call "Mendoza Mud." Nicely oaked but not overpowering. — 9 years ago
2013 vintage. BTG at Tannin Wine Bar. Super elegant and floral. Rose petals, violets, cranberry, black cherry, raspberry, dirt, autumn leaves. Love this stuff! — 9 years ago
Dark ruby in color with a purple rim.
Beautiful nose of blackberries, figs, cherries, oak, licorice, sweet strawberries, earth, citrus, spices, black pepper and dirt.
Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and nice legs.
Smooth, fruity and dry on the palate with blackberries, cherries, plums, currants, oak, dirt, earth and black pepper.
Long finish with full, round tannins, spices and black pepper.
This 6 year old, Single Vineyard Merlot, is already drinking beautifully, well balanced and elegant. Will be even better in 3 to 5 years.
Grapes grown at an altitude of 3,600 Feet. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. Very unique. Only 18 barrels were made.
Paired it with a cheese plate.
15% alcohol by volume. — 9 years ago
Straight up forest floor! It's like having a mouthful of dirt and red/black berries. Light acidity, very sassy for a pinot. — 10 years ago
Funk! Dark fruit, black olives and dirt. Incredibly pronounced and interesting with strong flavour. Boozy as hell too. $22 — 11 years ago

I couldn’t get enough of this bad boy, one of the most interesting wines I’ve had in a while, light red fruits and dirt on the nose with an incredibly off juicy and signature black peppercorn flavor of Schioppettino - don’t ever pass up the chance to taste this varietal, but particularly this wine. Wow. — 7 years ago
