Big Bad Baptist Exponential Series Imperial Stout 2016

Pours a thick dark black with almost no head. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, molasses, and bourbon all playing nicely with each other with no one flavor overpowering the others. A very nice barrel aged stout. — 10 years ago

Dark ruby. Big nose of raspberry and watermelon with allspice and bitter cherry, stable and herbal notes. Wow. Attacks with a lush, detailed palate, plenty of fruit and super detailed and a progressive finish. Bam! Xlnt./bad assed — 12 years ago

We should probably have drunk this twenty years ago, but the wine is still having a respectable old age (hope I will be able to say the same)! We bought this after drinking an earlier vintage of the same wine in Florence our first trip to Italy, in 1978, when the grapes were still on the vine....

Caymus Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

I'm going to come clean, I'm not a huge Caymus fan. It's by no means a bad wine - far from it - but I've always felt they blend their Cab with too much Zin. I could be wrong on that account, but I don't think I am. Still, a nice brooding nose of dark red and blue fruit, with a touch of candied fruit and wet earth. — 11 years ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1979

Contrary to other wines, D'yquem is in a class of it's own in terms of Sauternes. There is rarely, if ever, a bad year, although some years, like the 2001, stand out more than others. The disparity in quality from a GREAT d'yquem to a mediocre one & so on isn't as drastic as one might imagine. While the older vintages seem to age VERY well, it isn't as discernible from a recent vintage as other wines. Sauternes, in general are consistent, & none more than d'yquem. — 12 years ago

Magnum 2001 La Rioja Alta Grand Reserve Tempranillo Blend. Gj big group dinner while B&M Sh were visiting. Unfortunately, this wasn't a great bottle. Wasn't "bad," just wasn't what it should have been. No funky veg and earth notes we love. Just some fruit with a short, hot finish. Too bad :( — 10 years ago
