An indigenous white from Langhe, I think this is my first time trying Nascetta. In the Nebbiolo dominated Piedmont, that’s not surprising. My Barolo meter is well tuned. My Nascetta palate.... not so.
I’m blown away here, though. This bottle is shockingly sharp with a creamy twist at the end that harmonizes the intense tropical fruits with a (non-sweet) honey glaze.
It’s that moment in the evening when you sit down on the couch after a long productive day. Self satisfied comfort wine. — 6 years ago
Mag. I’ll admit to never having tried or even heard of Nascetta before. It does taste very Piedmont, somewhat akin to a Roero Arneis maybe. Clean and refreshing, melon and a hint of tropical fruit, a little fresh grass, a saline or flinty quality. Seems like it could be pretty interesting with age — 7 years ago
While not as pronounced as its Barolo sibling, the tar and roses are still evident on the nose here. This looks, smells and tastes like a nebbiolo, just not as intense as it can be. The red fruit is a little more candied (slightly) and the palate is a little more thin, but all the usual hallmarks are there. Paired with a soup course that included pancetta, cannellini beans and chicken broth, beautiful pairing. — 8 years ago

Barolo Chinato is a digestivo- a vermouth-like fortified wine similar to amaro...made with herbs, spices, and botanicals like quinine, fennel, cardamom, anise, citrus peel...macerated in grain spirits then mixed with barolo and aged for 1 yr+ in oak...bitter sweet and full of character. Picked up a 6 pack of the Alessandro Rivetto Langhe Nebbiolo 2018 on Last Bottle Wines for $78. Not a bad deal. Elegant entry level Nebbiolo. Classic notes of tart red cherry, tar, rose, orange pekoe tea and wet earth. Medium plus acidity and ripe sweet tannins. Delicious weekday wine. — 5 years ago
So I was recently listening to the “wine for normal people” podcast and they mentioned how a lot of the Barolo and Barbaresco producers would put leftover grapes essentially into the newer DOCs. Well I open my little wine fridge and here is this Rosso from Langhe. I thought perfect timing! Not much on the nose but beautiful deep flavors. Low acid, starts with sweeter blue fruit and builds up to vanilla-oak-leather goodness. Firm cold ripe fruit that finishes quickly. Coats the mouth. Chewy, almost ripe fruit flavors. A great everyday Italian reflecting some delicious grapes. — 7 years ago
