Michel Arnould & Fils

Mémoire de Vignes Champagne Pinot Noir 2008

Happy New Year!

Maybe the Michel Arnould old vines powerhouse is too serious for a lighthearted celebration, but it was just right for father and son wine geeks having New Years dinner alone together for the first time since 1999.

My top 10 wines of 2015:
85 Barros colheita port
92 Bruno Michel Champagne
94 Charbonniere Chateauneuf old vines
90 Cos d'Estournel
00 Domaine de Chevalier
96 Drouhin Corton Charlemagne
04 Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg auslese long gold cap
73 La Rioja Alta Arana
00 Lafon Volnay Santanots
82 Mount Eden Pinot Noir

And 5 honorable mentions just too damn delicious to leave out:
93 Beaulieu Napa Cab
88 Chasse-Spleen
10 Fontodi Chianti Classico
n/v Lustau Peurto de Santa Maria En Rama Sherry
12 Ridge Zinfandel Jimsomare

Case Via Colli Toscana Centrale Syrah 2001

this one surprised me--would never ever give a second thought to Italian Syrah, but this was elegant and harmonious and damn fine all around. — 9 years ago

Dino Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2012

Joe Campanale
9.4

First vintage ever of Fontodi Dino (named after Giovanni Manetti's father). Aged in amphora. The Manetti family has been amphora for 100s of years and it's exciting to try this wine in their family clay (mined locally in Tuscany)! Truly delicious — 10 years ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Riserva Rancia Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 1997

Ok. Paled in comparison to the Fontodi next to it. Nice wine, just suffered due to company — 10 years ago

Isole e Olena

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2011

14.5% alcohol but wears it well. Good acidity and structure. I think marginally me favourite chianti over Fontodi. — 10 years ago

Castello dei Rampolla

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2012

Delicious! Supple cherry with herbaceous edges and serious depth. For. Me this beats out Fontodi every time! Bright fruit with density and the perfect balance of wood. — 10 years ago
