A wine that I brought tonight and felt strongly about. Incredible pedigree, winemaker is from Araujo which is insane great! Beautiful 12 but I committed infanticide., should laid it down another few years but it did open up like a million bucks after a few hours. Truly opulent Napa wine which is well structured and loved by all tonight. A new rockstar on the block vs the the old rock stars that were drinking in full stride tonight. It's was awesome tonight but I can't wait for it to evolve a little and become STELLAR in the future. I highly recommend this wine. The preliminary rating is 96 to 98 and the 13 is even better if you can imagine that! — 8 years ago

“Between Two Mothers” is the translated meaning of Entre Deux Mères, a brand stemming from the collaborative efforts and friendship of two women, Francoise Peschon, winemaker at Araujo Estate and viticulturist Lisa Behrens, of Behrens and Hitchcock. The nose is plummy, possibly flirting with over-ripeness. There are too, notes of lilacs, dark chocolate and subtle spice shining through this voluptuous Napa Cab along with inner sweetness at the core and a nice dollop of glycerol and fine tannin. 14.3% ABV — 9 years ago

What do you get when you combine a 15 acre vineyard on the Silverado Bench about 200 feet up from the valley floor at the base of Atlas Peak owned by a former math professor with a team of winemaker Dave Phinney (of Orin Swift, GKG, Stanton) and viticulturalist Steve Matthiasson (Araujo, Chappellet, David Arthur, and Spottswoode to name a few)? Aftermath. I'm not sure if the name was ominous or fortuitous, but Jim Kaplan's first vintage was 2011, which was notoriously difficult. His 2012 vintage was completely lost to the 2014 earthquake. The result is indeed the aftermath...
The 2013 is a blueberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant explosion, with the fallout being licorice, white flowers, cedar, and cacao nips, with enough of an herbaceous tilt to give an exotic edge. Fans of Phinney's Papillon and Mercury Head, and frankly Napa Cabs in general should seek this out. — 7 years ago

Magnum 1999 Harlan Estate. Welcome dinner for D fam at RW. Drank this after the '96 Araujo Eisele out of magnum. Unfortunately, this bottle was not stored properly and just didn't drink great. Unanimous that Araujo hit it out of the park and that this wine was not what it should have been. It was hot, lacked dimension, and the finish was abrupt and harsh. It should have been great, as we have been enjoying other '99s at this time, but not this bottle. — 8 years ago
