Tons of gamy, animale, sauvage character. An array of red fruits underpinned by bloody, iron character. The vintage’s acidity is still present but not obtrusive. Lovely wine, but outshone by the Côte de Nuits wines on the night. — 8 years ago
Spicy and layered with garrigue and dark fruits but scarcely "animale" and feeling the ripeness of 03 as it takes away from the lean meaty notes I would expect. Still nice but a nice I can get in Cali. — 10 years ago
Red raspberry aromas and a bit of bay leaf and mint. Stewed rhubarb, olalliberries and a touch of animale. Lively acidity. Could use a bit more time to pull it all together. — 10 years ago
I had eschewed buying Roagna's for a long time due to brett problems but clearly I made a mistake, because the two bottles I had recently were phenomenal! This 11' Paje was incredibly elegant, especially when you factor in the vintage. The nose is so enticing, with red cherries, plum, licorice, earth, dried roses, and menthol. The palate just oozes sexiness. The clarity is stellar, with a real generosity that just pulls you in, and wild state that adds a little intrigue. Plush red and black fruits, orange oil, herbs, spices, minerals, and some animale hints. The acidity is excellent, driving a long finish. Very fine-grained tannin and even discrete when compared to the 96' Pira Riserva I had a couple of weeks ago. This is really young, but I think the vintage does give it a sort of mellowed approachability at the moment (at least versus the 96' again, although certainly showing less density). Really starting to fall in love with this producer ♥️ — 6 years ago

4/13/2017 Heard Serafin made great wines for the 2007 vintage, and was lucky to find some. This is indeed impressively concentrated for the vintage. Very ripe , but balanced blue fruits, some funk (from Brett?), well integrated terrior of earth and animale, almost covered by the fruits. Softened tannins. Starting to peak now but can easily hold for 5 more years — 9 years ago
Exactly what I love about a good Petite Sirah. Dark inky purple, peppery, smoky, nose. On the palate, full body, meaty, spicy and smoky. I LOVE this wine. Memorable wine. — 10 years ago
Elegant, a bit animale, touch of tapenade and rich, red meat. Closest Cali gets to Cote Rotie — 11 years ago
L'Ange Vin -Jean-Pierre Robinot! Radical wine. Pineau d'Aunis in its pure animale expression!! On the best coast for its inaugural release. Finally. — 13 years ago
Typical Raquillet Pinot nose of animale, wood smoke, meat juices and new barrel. Intense lift, refinement and raspberry coulis-like fruit from this special vintage. Plenty of heft and grip, though. Really perfect Mercurey. — 6 years ago
Beautiful with notes of green pepper and tomato leaf. Perfect with seafood. — 6 years ago
Crafted from 50-60 year old vines, Botuari's Assyrtiko is resinous and beaming with salt. The wine finds further complexity through notes of ripe citrus peel, grapefruit pith, lemon oil, sweat, and a tad of animale. Spritely, but also tactile and palate-coating. 100% Αssyrtiko — 8 years ago
From one of the Languedoc-Roussillon's most exciting young négociants, Hecht & Bannier's Côtes du Roussillon Villages demonstrates excellent varietal character - a classic, rustic expression of Grenache from this corner of the Med. Flavors of almond dust, warm plums, licorice, raspberry and blanched sweet herbs expand to a rather girthy mid-palate, nuanced by a subtle minerality and animale character that informs the finish. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Lledoner Pelut. — 8 years ago
Still very youthful but in a good place. Red and black fruits and some animale on the nose. Sour cherry dominates the medium-body palate and the finish is long. — 9 years ago
Dark cherry and tart berries with a hint of animale. Fine plush tannin. More please. — 10 years ago
Vintage is 2000. Lots of leather & "animale." Thx to @norberkeleywine for importing! — 11 years ago

So rich and complex. Amazing wine. Dark fruit, sangio acid, wild herbs, animale, Smokey, meaty, chocolaty. Will buy more immediately. Great value as well. Not far from the Canalicchio Di Sopra for a much better price. — 6 years ago
