This wine is medium dark in the glass, a bit more opaque than usual for Burgundy, a bit less than usual for Cali Pinot. The nose carries some really dark blackberry aromas, with not a hint of sweetness. There's a little black tea coming in beneath the earthy minerals. I get a slight note of bramble or sagebrush, too. Savory rules the palate, too, with tar, dark berries and earth all over the place. As I so often find in California Pinot Noir, I'm overwhelmed by the heft and depth of the wine. It may not be my style, but when the savory angle takes charge I can forget that it seems like I'm drinking Syrah. Bring on a ribeye steak for this one, or a porterhouse if you can handle it. — 7 years ago
On the nose, cherries, poached strawberries, soft minerals, fresh red roses and loamy soils. On the palate, creamy but leaner; raspberries, dark cherries, cherries, spiced plum, beautifully soft volcanic minerals, loamy soils, cinnamon, clove and nice soft spice. Finishes with bright strawberries, good chalkiness and acidity. Photos of their tasting bar and another angle of their sweeping vistas. — 8 years ago
Oh hey youngin' had a salami cured meat angle out the gate with dark purple flowers and tight black fruit that faded into a nice bouquet and a iron back bone, tight still on day two developed some black plums the tannins are still gripping, hold off for at least 5yrs — 9 years ago
The winemaker calls this wine “blueberry motor oil that will stain your soul.” He also advises that you not spill any on your shirt.
A Central Coast appellation, the Cycles Gladiator Petite Sirah hits 14.8% abv and sells for a pretty incredible $11. The wine spent 15 months in oak, half new American and half neutral.
This is a dark wine, very dark, non-porous dark. There is no light getting through this indigo pour at all. Loads of blueberry smells jump right out, followed by abundant oak spices. A little smoky and savory angle sneaks through at the edge of the glass. The wine is very easy to drink, with fine tannins and beautiful dark-fruit flavor laced with that oak effect.

This '75 was a gem!! Super complex hitting every angle unfortunately had to drink it fast was oxidizing quickly!! — 10 years ago
Multi-dimensional, layered and complex. I have been tasting this over the course of the afternoon, in an attempt to fully appreciate this masterpiece from every angle. Opens with classic brioche notes, d'Anjou pear, wild clover honey, crystalline ginger. On the palate, it's all finesse and power. Candied orange peel, almond biscotti and the sort of vibrant acidity required to make this an excellent food wine. The finish is spectacular and lengthy. Krug ID 212026 — 11 years ago
Silky smooth. Lighter in body than I expected. Well balanced. — 7 years ago
On the nose; ripe, ruby, floral, slightly candied fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, blueberries & dark cherries. Whiff of pepper, black cherry cola, amazing purple florals and violets.
The body is full. The tannins are sticky & chewy. There’s is a nice elegance that follows. Ruby, ripe fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, blueberries and dark cherries. Whiff of pepper, black cherry cola, whiff of herbal notes, pepper, dark rich, moist soil, some dry light vanilla, red florals, amazing purple florals and violets. Amazing acidity with a flat out long, rich, elegant finish.

This Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir, from the Dierberg Vineyard in northern Santa Barbara County, is medium-dark in the glass. It brings aromas of earthy raspberry and black cherry, with coffee grounds and a heavy mineral angle. On the palate, it has a boatload of acidity and tannins, with dark berry flavors and hints of black tea. It's a huge Pinot, probably a bit brawnier than my taste likes, but still has an elegant side. It is unapologetic in its California-ness, even from a cool-climate region like the SMV. — 8 years ago
1st to rate. It's an honour. Label is lovely and creative, it changes as u move your heads angle. Wine is nice, light but solid — 9 years ago
Beautiful psychedelic color actually changes depending on the angle - a sunset in your glass. Petrol, alcohol nose, honey, white flower, stone fruit, wet clay and dry stems. Love. — 9 years ago
I imagine Isaac Newton, as Chancellor of the Exchequer, enjoying a glass of this after another successful prosecution of a counterfeiter, while simultaneously working out some fluxions and chipping away at the transmutation of matter problem from a different angle. In short, complex and interesting, sooner or later ending up in Westminster Abbey. — 10 years ago
once again, a proper beer. you can just taste the quality. not overdone from any angle. crisp, balanced, true weizen! — 10 years ago
Am appreciating the red cherry angle more these days. Nice. — 11 years ago
Angle in Disguise told me to pic this one so I did an love an enjoyed it so much — 12 years ago
Good aroma with oak and matured fruits flavor. Still has angle. But full body and good potential for aging. 30min, extremely good aroma came! This is same with 2001 vintage! Decanting should be necessary, 1 hour, it started turning to be much better in its taste. Even young, but we can enjoy 3 steps change in 3 hours. @1840, Winona - XH , 181015-181129 — 7 years ago
Love these wines. Touch of CO2, hint of reduction. Sonnenheur is a sundial in the center of Juffer, planted at an 85 degree angle above the ville of Brauneberger. The village was renamed in the 1700’s to reflect the brown slate soil of the hill that dominates the landscape. The vineyard was planted in the 1600’s and largely managed and run by 3 “spinster” sisters until the Haag family started farming it in the 1700’s. — 7 years ago
Some funk on the open. Blew off. Higher acidity than warmer years. I think this is a great representation of the essence of the vineyard. Silky. I believe this includes Angle fruit which really sets this up for a long life. Looking forward to enjoying this over the next 10+ years. — 8 years ago
On the nose, savory, wild, dark berries, blue berries, black raspberries, raspberries, smoke, vanilla, light cinnamon, fresh dark florals and moist black earth. The palate is leaner medium. The tannins are soft and round. Bright, ripe fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, plum, dark cherries, moist dark earth, stones, soft leather, wood shavings, steeped black fruit tea, dark fresh florals, bright round acidity and a round, fresh, ripe, fruity finish. Excellent for around $25. Producer notes...Dr. János Stumpf studied under Tibor Gál, internationally known winemaker of SuperTuscan Ornalia. Dr. Stumpf dry farms approximately 15 hectares of vines on the south facing hill of Eged. They are split between two vineyards with very similar conditions, Sik Dülö and EgedHegy Dülö or the Eged Hill Vineyard. Both are planted in almost pure limestone on a 20% grade situated about half way up the hill...the mid point of a hill or slope is an excellent location for angle to the sun. Aged in mostly large 500L barrels (3/4 new) which; allowes for very slow oxidation and a more nuanced influence of oak. After an average of 20 months in barrel, they are kept in separate lots until the final blend. All wines were bottled unfiltered and stored for a minimum of 1 year before release. Pairings; herbed pheasant, lamb, pungent creamy cheeses and whole grain based dishes like barley or faro. For the authentic experience, wild venison is recommended. — 8 years ago
This is my very happy place with Pinot Noir. Not that much further north of Burgundy, the Loir produces a small amount but impressive expressions. The immediate, out-of-the-bottle nose was of angle food cake and sugary fruit candy. Then on the palate, excellent balanceof mineral, fruit and acidity. 2010 vintage. — 9 years ago
A tasty port goes great with raspberries, coconut whipping and angle cake ! — 9 years ago
Incredibly floral, red licorice, cherry tootsie roll pop on the nose. Lots of backbone, juicy acidity, remarkable complexity - each sip shows a different angle. — 10 years ago
2011 is jammin! Very good. Lots of fruit and well-rounded tannins. Oak, vanilla, cedar, cassis, and lead all compliment the raspberry and blueberry. Still a bit young but approachable. Will improve with a few years age. Also 14.5 ABV is not overpowering but actually gives the fruit a nice angle on the mid-palate and finish. Solid 92. — 10 years ago
Get the Rhone angle down. Lovely — 11 years ago

Fantastic wine. Just crazy good for price point, and a special angle on Nebbiolo. Apparently the grapes grow on such a steep hill the pickers need mountain climbing skills to get them. — 6 years ago
