Nose: dark chocolate and cherry, slightly smokey inside of a wood box. Cherry on the tongue but not sweet, extremely well balanced with tannin, fruit and acid. Very smooth. — 8 years ago

Dominio Del Urogallo

La Fanfarria Red Blend

Lovely fresh red from Asturias. Made from Mencía and Albarín tinto (=Alfrocheiro in Portugal). Zippy red fruit, black olives, olive brine, some really pretty spices. Taste is very smooth yet fresh. Red fruits, chalky tannins. Tiny green bitter to keep it interesting. Great acidity. Very gluggable. 2013. — 9 years ago

Great value! Just $10 for this delightful blend of Trincadeira (40%), Aragonez (40) and Alfrocheiro (20). Blackberry, boysenberry and a hint of clove. Light but flavorful and delicious. 14%. Imported by Wine In-Motion LLC, Union NJ. Dionysus. — 11 years ago

Quinta de Cabriz

Colheita Seleccionada Dão Red Blend

Vintage 2014 - Dão is a sentimental wine, a youth love. It was powerfull and spicy when I drank it in my youth. This wine is funky frivolous, silky structure, a touch of spices. Milk chocolate in the smell. Made of three grapes: touriga nacional, tinta roriz and alfrocheiro. Great wine to give your day a silver edge. Very good p/q. — 7 years ago

Reserva Estate Bottled Dão Red Blend 2008

Aged 9 months in French oak. Blend of Touriga Nacional 40%, Tinta Roriz(Tempranillo) 35%, and Alfrocheiro. This wine is high in tannins, medium in acids and is extremely well balanced. Very long finish that has the representation of red, blue and black fruits. Is an excellent choice for savory dishes. — 9 years ago

50% Touriga Nacional e 50% Alfrocheiro, MADE by Julia Kemper, a reconverted lawyer supported by Dirk Niepoort, started to make great Dao wines, this one is a concept more simple, very floral notes fruity and elegant, a good stuff 😃 — 10 years ago

Quinta dos Carvalhais

Dão Alfrocheiro 2012

Made only in exceptional years, an excellent example of the Touriga Nacional grape, deep red color with black fruit aromas, aged for 12 months in new and used French oak. On the palate blackberry and black cherry flavors with herb notes, and vivid acidity, and oaky notes. The finish is about medium, fine tannins and great structure which will age well for a decade. — 8 years ago

The bird is the word. One of the best wines I've had from Portugal. Definitely almost a light red. Pretty, juicy damson plum, pomegranate and raspberry purée notes are overlaid with pink rose and violet florals. Herbal sage and coriander notes add depth. General crunchiness and sapidity abide. So drinkable and complex, especially for the price. I foresee a lot of this in my future. What I've always been looking for in Portugal: their answer to Beaujolais. — 9 years ago

2004 - A successful blend made by Dirk Niepoort and Alvaro de Castro - combining freshness and elegance of Dao and character of Douro - encompasses the best of the two regions. This edition is the result of combining 60% of a blend of wine from the Douro, produced at Quinta de Nápoles from very old vines, one of which is over 120 years old, with 40% of a blend of Dão produced at Quinta da Pellada, from old vines, with the region's characteristic varieties: Tourigo, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz 😀 — 10 years ago
