Third of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.

Dark purplish ruby red. Dark fruits on the nose with notes of forest floor and some aged characteristics of mushrooms. Solid acidity and heavy tannins (7/10). Rich palate on the attack with black fruits. Opened up to some anise, a touch aged, earthiness and some minerality. Medium plus body and long finish. Drink till 2028. (91+)

Will leave our last bottle for a few years. Hopefully this will improve with age. — 8 years ago

Flemings for our 13th anniversary. Had again several years later. Deep purple in color. Striking and strong nose. This is a complex blend with a loyal following. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon. I bought a 2015 from LA Wine Co in July of 2017 and opened in November of 2017. — 11 years ago

On Armenian Christmas must drink wine from Armenia, keeps getting better and better with bottle age. 2011 was the 2nd vintage and the 1st to get imported to the US in limited quantities. Wine is aged in clay pot (amphora) from vineyards of a 13th century monastery. — 8 years ago

Finally trying Cherry Pie (from Hundred Acre). 3 different single vineyard Pinots from 2012. Stanly Ranch is dynamite (and a vineyard to keep an eye on). Reminiscent of Kosta Browne. Next up is Rodgers Creek. Darker fruit. Less explosive, but a nice wine. Third up is Carinalli. Way lighter, though some spice to it. It's fine, but doesn't hold a candle to the other two. Grande Cuvée NV. Oldest wine 1988. Amazing. Blend works especially well here. Rich and generous. Concentrated, but precise and long. Citrus and stone fruit - fresh. Touch of coffee notes that adds complexity and complexity to the mid palate. NB: 4,000 kg Marc translates to 2,050 for 1st Taille. 450 litres for 2nd and 3rd tail is sold off to third parties - never used for Krug. — 10 years ago

Sadly, this was my last bottle of the '94 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon '13th Anniversary Release'. Under Helen Turley's superlative winemaking skills these mid-nineties efforts were quite formidable. Big smoky aromas of black fruit and minerals explode from the glass. I still tasted the slowly diminishing flavors well over a minute after swallowing. Absolutely a heavenly wine! — 12 years ago

Third red of the evening. Deep garnet red. Needs time, slight portiness and whiskey on the nose. Dark fruits and figs too. Tasted blind but reminded us straight away of the 2009 Force Majeure IV we had earlier last year. Moderate tannins (6/10) and full bodied. A little cherry liquor and dark cocoa on the palate. Long finish and the nose is a bit off-putting. This needs time to mellow out. — 8 years ago

The dimensions of this wine are huge, and I don't mean alcohol, acidity, or tannin, though it has fair bit of all three. There's a depth or a third dimension that only wines from special places have. The fruit is bright and the color pale, but the wine is dark in character. It's the character that Etna has - that rocky, ashy, old balsamic, dusky mountain herb, intense etnosity. — 10 years ago

My third time having this wine in the last year and while it was still amazing it wasn't quite up to the level of the last 2. I suspect just bottle variation. Still vibrant, aromatic and full of life. Still slightly tannic with tobacco, cassis, Forrest floor, leather and some nice chocolate and black fruits. I think it's at peak now but has plenty of life left. A wonderful mature Bordeaux — 11 years ago

Clocking in at only 13% abv, this third growth vintage 2003 is an absolute stunner. Suave and sophisticated, abundant fruit, nice acid to balance, minerality, well integrated tannins and long finish! For maximum enjoyment decant 1 hour or more before imbibing. And yes it has amazing aging ability, this wine is still clearly a youngster, full of youthful ambitions! — 12 years ago
