Grands Échézeaux Pinot Noir 2018

To celebrate my 9,000 reviews on vivino, here is a beautiful Pinot Noir.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong fruity nose with bing cherries, raspberries, sweet strawberries, spices, oak, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blueberries, black cherries, light earth, herbs, spices, vanilla, cedar, black pepper, light cola, dark coffee and licorice. black pepper.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Pinot Noir from Burgundy is already drinking very nicely, but still extremely young. Well balanced and smooth with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

I had it blind right out of the bottle. That was a nice surprise. I called 2018 Burgundy Pinot Noir, but I did not see this kind of bottle coming... What a great experience to blind taste such an iconic wine.

There is always an aura when drinking these kind of wines, but drinking them blind, gives you a perspective that might be missed otherwise.

Needed 2 hours in the decanter to open up properly, and bring more complexity. Much better once it opens up.

Robert Parker 94 points.

I had an older vintage of this wine a year ago, and it is such a different wine. Will continue to age nicely in the next 30 to 40 years.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$2,500.

Ruinart

Brut Rosé Champagne

Very fine mousse but it disappears really quickly.
Strawberries and cream on the nose very vividly. Sweet whipped cream is almost turning into condensed milk. Raspberry, very ripe peach, coissant woth strawberry jam. All sorts of strawberry associations really :)
On the palette mousse slowly fills the mouth, pretty dry on the finish. Brioche, pear, red apple, confiture.

Bollinger

La Grande Année Brut Champagne Blend 1996

From magnum, the 1996 Grande Année pours a brilliant pale gold color with a persistent mousse. Initially, the wine showed more oxidative notes but it freshened up considerably with air (in fact, a tiny amount was leftover for the next morning and it remained brilliant, racy even!). On the nose, notes of almond, citrus, honey, chalky minerals and brioche. On the palate, wine is developing with absolutely brilliant acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and zippy. The 1996 vintage is simply amazing. Here we are, 28 years past vintage and this bright and full of life! Granted, it’s a magnum, but still. Drink now with patience or enjoy through 2046+. — 3 months ago

Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

I don’t get to try this ultra premium segment of Burgundy much so it is a treat to have this. This displays ripe aromas of berries, rose petal, leafs and wine gum pastille. It is medium bodied. On the palate you get more berries, citrus fruits, vanilla and cinnamon. The finish is fresh and dry with district fine tannins. — 4 months ago

Failla

Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2021

I opened the 2021 Failla Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.

On the nose there is cherry, strawberry, cranberry, truffles, violets and earth.

On the palate there is bing cherry, strawberry, cranberry, vanilla, cinnamon, spice and light earth.

This wine is medium bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel medium to medium + acidity and medium to medium + fine supple tannins that moves into a long red fruit spicy finish. Enjoy the weekend and stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

1970 vintage. Good not great fill. Cork an absolute mess. Decanted and tasted after an hour. Wow. Light body but still going strong. Big spice and orange peel components. Excellent length of finish and obvious class in the glass. 3.5.24. — 3 months ago

I was a little concerned I let it go too far in bottle on its own, but with pepperoni pizza and rigatoni bolognase and a little time to air out, it was very nice. I think one of the few Beaujolais wines that can spend more time in bottle reliably. — 4 months ago
