This is the 3rd or 4th vintage I've had of this. I'm in love with this wine and Daou is doing some amazing things in Paso Robles. Cherry and a lot of plum fruit. There are currant and spice notes and a chocolate finish that just melts in your mouth. Full-bodied, chewy and jammy with dusty tannins. I got for $15 but goes for about $20. $20 for this or $25 for St. Jean? That's a personal palate call, but you won't go wrong either way. High QPR here. Case alert! — 8 years ago

Another round with this house favorite.
Perhaps a tad below my last encounter and showing a bit of heat but this was also pnp'ed (pop-and-pour) at room temperature so probably my bad.

2013v. Very aromatic nose: sour cherry, carob, hibiscus/rose/potpourri, licorice, brown sugar, and a little raisin. Good body with lots of legs on the glass. Bright and deep fruit on the palette with a good shot of acid and smooth tannins. A long finish with a hint of tar or earth. A really vibrant and complex wine if you stop and take note, but it can easily play a supporting role to food. I had it with pasta and a pork tenderloin. Served after about an hour decant. Nice QPR. 13.5% ABV. — 7 years ago
