Wes Hagen, 20 year veteran wine maker at Clos Pepe Vineyard, joined our group and gave us a master class in Santa Barbara pinot noir. We tried 11 PNs from 2004-2010, made by Loring, AP Vin, Sandler, Siduri, and Brewer-Clifton. This AP Vin was my #2 although the group rates it closer to the middle of the pack. @Delectable this is their Contraste #2
Bit of a hard transition after the Gimonnet. Not sure many would call blind 100% Meunier and 1 gram dosage.
For 1 gram, there is some sweetness. Grapefruit w/pith, bruise red & green apple, B that leans into a bit of cider, Bosc & some Bartlett pear, white citrus blend, ginger ale, yeasty notes, bread dough, soft, round, punchy chalkiness, alluvial limestone marl, caramel, vanillin, sea spray to fossils, white spice, baguette crust, whither white & yellow flowers, crisp acidity and well tensioned, structured, balanced, smartly polished finish that lasts two-minutes plus. — 2 days ago
