Blackberry/Cherry Liqueur, pain grille, hints of mint, lead pencil. Remains very dark and inky. Very youthful. 16.5%abv. Smooth with chalky tannins. Will revisit in another 5-7 yrs.

Color is still a deep ruby/garnet with a nose of plums, black tea, black pepper, and hints of dark chocolate. Amazingly smooth, this Petite Sirah has developed nicely over 13 years. Fruit is still there, but florals are popping out and the texture is wonderful. Full-bodied, bold, powerful wine given to me by a friend. Paired with prime NY strip and ribeye = perfection.

Deep ruby, this one still has tons of deep color for a 2009. Nose has blueberries, anise, dark chocolate, and black tea. This is very good. The aging on this bottle opens this Petite Sirah perfectly. Wonderful full-bodied mouthfeel, with flavor pumping continually along the long lasting finish. This fits my description of a “bold” wine. I coravined this one for a taste. Will plan to pair with a ribeye with a nice crust to play off the boldness of flavor.

The second bottle paired with the decadent Beef Short Ribs was a '09 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah 'Peterson Family Vineyard'. This opaque sun-blocking purple monster was all blueberry pie aromas with thick, ripe and chewy flavors of sweet black fruit, olives and mocha that thoroughly coated the mouth. Smooth, but surprisingly complex, on the long finish.
