Vigne Vecchie Sicilia Nerello Mascalese

Warm vintage, elevated alcohol and concentration but much welcome for dinner on a cold January night. Scorched earth typicity prevails over barnyard aromas, slight va adding lift, but generally a sound bottle compared to past experience. The velvety/evolved tannins of this wine elevated its rusticity past other more predictably high toned and rigid Etna Rossos.

2007 close or at its peak remarkable in its combination of primary and tertiary flavors. Delicious.

Earthy, leather, red fruits, smoke. Minerally. Big!

These are stunners. 11 years old and holding onto those primary fruits - cherry, grape candy. Underneath it is that volcanic smoke, flowers in the rubble, something herbaceous, something salty. Brilliant acidity. And it’s like $30.

my favorite vintage thus far.

Aged wet hay, sorrel syrup whiskey meaty bite, great tannin that sits early kind of arch’s then falls away, rich purple for so much structure great balance, 2007 is ready! Alc hidden!

Very good. Paired with chicken sausage, vegan pesto and whole wheat spaghetti.
