Upper Galilee Judean Hills%2c Israel

Tishbi

Viognier 2019

Estate Viognier 2019. Found a couple of bottles in the winery... what a treat. The grapes are coming from the Judean hills.
Brilliant color, nice nose , citrus notes. On the palate seems like a full body a little oily. Very different from when tasted at its youth.
Excellent.

Classico Merlot Blend 2018

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here's a nice one from Israel.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Nose of cherries, blueberries, wood, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, espresso, pencil lead, vegetables, herbs and black pepper.

Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, cherries, wood, licorice, light vanilla, light vegetables, dark coffee, herbs, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite and black pepper.

Medium plus in finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a nice surprise. I've had this wine for the last 4 vintages, and this is the best one yet. Easy drinking with mild complexity and a nice mouthfeel. Feels like a blend of new and old world wine.

Good by itself or with food. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up ( 30 minutes). After an hour of airtime, tannins show up.

Drinking very nicely already, even by itself.

A blend of 36% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, 12% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc.

Grapes are grown in the Judean Hills at 2,000 feet elevation, and aged for 10 months in oak barrels. Kosher. Not Mevushal.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$35.

I don’t come across much wine from Israel (very curious about Covenant Israeli wines) however, have always thought Rhone varietals would be better suited for Israel. What are your thoughts?

One of my top picks when I am in the mood for a cab-sav. Dry and delicious! I recommend decanting before enjoying — 6 years ago

Black Tulip RED BLEND 2016

I miss Israel. I was supposed to go back there this year, but you know, the virus. So I have wine from there. This blend is very good, very tasty. Black fruits with a coffee, and a leather. With short spicy finish. — 4 years ago

Upper Galilee Cabernet Franc 2015

Amazing Cab Franc from this boutique winery in Judean Hills in Israel. Recommended by our server Maya at Onza as she just visited the winery and she was right. — 5 years ago

second bottle for me from hyped boutique shvo vineyard.
non kosher and sustainable, supposedly.

12.5% ABV

pale green 👀

pineapple and hinted flint👃

medium minus body.
medium minus acidity.

tropics and lemon with biterness on the side and some hinted funk 👄

light 🎯 with some juicy feeling.

can't say i was amazed but well done with firm balanced structure.

great vfm (75 nis).

had it all day long while vacationing in a hotel with the family.
as the time passed bitterness was felt more and funkness became dryness.

not my fave style sauvignon blanc but still very good.
hope to try the shvo chenin soon.
