Starting the long Labor Day weekend in Big Sur the right way with a little N/V Krug Grande Cuvée. @Nepenthe
Happy Labor Day weekend all! 🍾🥂
Noses reveals; heavy bruised red apple, Bosc pear, overripe pineapple, lemon meringue, tropical melons, lime zest, white spice, sea fossils, deep crisp chalkiness, grey volcanics, yeast & bread dough, nougat, baguette crust, limestone, caramel notes, cream, vanillin framed in yellow lilies, white & spring flowers & mixed greens.
The palate is, ripe, lush, fresh and lively. The mouthfeel all Krug beautiful. Bruised red & golden apple with hints of cider, Bosc pear, overripe pineapple, lemon meringue, tropical melons, white stone fruits, lime zest/candy, white spice, sea fossils, crisp chalkiness, grey volcanics, yeast & bread dough, nougat, baguette crust, limestone, caramel notes, cream, cream soda, vanillin framed in yellow lilies, spring flowers & mixed greens. The acidity is near perfect. The long, elegant, well knitted & balanced finish is gentle until the long set when you get a full presence of white spice and minerality that persists for minutes.

A delicious blend that warms you up on a cool night. Great to curl up w a good book to. Bought in Santa Barbara at the Grassini wine tasting room. — 9 years ago
Opened an old one for Mother's Day. It decanted for an hour and it was amazing! — 10 years ago
At $9 a bottle this is a must to try. Our white wine drinker, Laura gives it a 8.3. Cherry and pepper is tasty — 10 years ago
Perfect for an afternoon at the beach. Crisp, dry with a hint of peach. — 10 years ago
This wine thinks it is a dairy product - much more oak than we usually like (but that is why we tried the "long aged" - to try something different). Beautifully executed. — 11 years ago
Delicious.. love whiting hour Great cab. — 8 months ago
With a 2 hour decant (needs 3) the 2000 Lalanden has noticeable Petit Verdot and pales in comparison to its sibling the Baron in this vintage. Still a very good wine! — 9 months ago
Drinking very well now. Still needs about an hour to open. Nice fruit. Elegant wine. Not as good as the 2004 which we had last night. — 8 years ago
Fantastic. Let it breathe for an hour. Drank w our two friends who own Manousakis Vineyard in Chania. Very special wine that is full bodied with soft tannins. Full of soft cherries and forest floor. It's the bomb — 10 years ago
After a solid hour of air a majestic and sophisticated wine began to bloom. It's absolutely lovely, rich berries, glycerin, minerals and dark chocolate. Merci! — 11 years ago
1 hour decant(some chunky/fine sediment). A splendid dark medium garnet with little bricking. On the nose: expressive perfumed nose with dark plum/cherry, currants, milk chocolate, baking spice, floral, wet forest floor, touch of roasted meat. Taste: silky, balanced, elegant wine that is singing at 20 years with dried red fruit, earth, chocolate, cedar, minerals, saline, and a spiced-tobacco-green bell pepper long finish. YUM! — 8 months ago

1 hour decant(lots chunky/fine sediment). A gorgeous inky purplish garnet color. On the nose: dark fruit, forest floor, smoked meat, floral, cigar wrapper, pencil lead. Taste: smooth, rich, creamy mouthcoating wine with blackberry/dark cherry, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, baking spice, and a cedar/graphite medium plus finish with some slight dusty tannins. Had this 2 years ago, and it's improved. In the beginning of its drink window at 18 years? Wow — 9 months ago

Dark fruit, needed to decant for about an hour to have it open up! Great tannins really at its peak in my opinion !!! — 7 years ago
Nose had some funk with leather, mineral and a hint of red liquorice. Evolved nicely with fruit coming out after an hour or so. Blackberry, blueberry were present after the earthy start. — 8 years ago
Raison on the nose. Well balanced. Could probably breath more than an hour or so — 10 years ago
Birth Year wine, so I'm a bit biased. Took about an hour to open up. Great cherry and floral notes. Wish I had another. — 11 years ago
Happy anniversary 2011 — 13 years ago
Ray Vanderhoff
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (91.3%) and Merlot (8.7%). A bit tight and unexpressive right out of the bottle. After a 45 minute decant, this wine was awake and very alive. Dark ruby color. Aromas of graphite, forest floor, wet gravel and dark black fruit. Flavors of black currant/cherry/berry/plum, tobacco, baking spices, dark chocolate and minerals. Distinct notes of smoky oak and wet earth on the long and lingering finish. Tannins were a bit lighter than expected at first but developed with aeration. Quite savory, rich, full bodied and powerful. Beautiful texture. Exceptional (once it opened up) but not the bottle of near perfection that I had heard so much about. Thanks for sharing, Petey and Happy Birthday, Kase! — 8 months ago
