This one already has a spot in the stable and only went on to justify why... — 10 years ago
Lovely and aromatic. Citrusy in a good way. Some orange peel and slight bitterness. — 11 years ago
Bought in chianti. Smooth, no overpowering aromas or flavour, slight earthy taste, almost like having a coke without the sweetness. — 11 years ago
Sorprendente 2001, ancora perfetto. Si presenta rosso rubino inchiostrato con vividi riflessi accesi. Al naso è fresco e fruttato, con note di tabacco, davvero fine. In bocca è equilibrato, abbastanza fresco, con tannino perfetto. Davvero ottimo. — 12 years ago
Good table wine we had in Rome! — 12 years ago
I'm not a big fan of chianti but this one is the very first in my wish list. Can't wait to enjoy it tomorrow night again! 👍🏽🍷 — 9 years ago

One of my top 5 of the year. Outstanding in all respects. Who knew there were good reds in Sam Gimignano? Summer 2013 — 11 years ago

Robust and well balanced. Excellent choice recommended by our sommelier in Assisi to span grilled steak and pasta in meat sauce. — 10 years ago
Quite high sugar content... Fantastic for a stuffy restaurant with broken air con in Singapore! — 10 years ago
5 min of open air drastically changed flavor. Deep red, with full mouth feel. Lots of tannin up front before smoothing out on back end. Purchased in Italy directly from winery. — 11 years ago

Tom Kobylarz
A wine that combines nature, art, terroir and an amazing story. From the volcanic island of Sicily on the slopes of Mount Etna, Fattorie Romeo Castello had lava flows in a vineyard that they thought was lost after an eruption. Years later the vines pushed through the lava and the resulting fruit from this lava vineyard make this special wine. Thank you #MonicaLarner for bringing this wine to my attention through your pioneering critical writings.
Now for the wine notes:
The color is a slightly hazy garnet red color.
The nose is spectacular, revealing the complexity inherent in this wine. Notes of ash and volcanic rock give way to ripe bing cherry, a meaty roast beef streak, with subtle hints of roses, herbs and tar.
The palate is just as complex, showing power and elegance in the intensity of flavor, while plenty of acidity and firm, youthful tannin add length and freshness.
