On the nose, dark sour cherries, dates, burnt figs, grilled meats, burnt ambers, liquid smoke & dark dry florals. The core color is dark with garnet edges. The palate is; slightly sour but mostly sweet dark cherries, stewed plum, cooked strawberries, rhubarb, dates, figs, tomatoes, smoke, grilled meats, brewed coffee, light tarry notes, dry crushed rock powder, volcanic minerals, dark rich earth, dusty tannins, dry dark florals, soft chewy leather, nice round acidity with a decent, soft, elegant finish...50-50 fruit & earth. This is the largest co-op producer in Europe with 50 members. They collectively have 250 acres; which is about 1/6 of the total under vine. Photos of; the town of Barbaresco (their tasting room near the tower), Produttori cellar and their tasting bar. No appointment necessary. Close to Gaja and the town has one of the best one star Michelin lunches as well as the best service we've experienced. Just right of Gaja. Good with our Veal Bolognese. — 8 years ago

Did you know that there is Zin planted in Oakville? Yep, but less than 10 acres, mostly by Ghost Block's owners. They make this excellent Oakville Zin for - wait for it - only $25. Not big and jammy, but rather dark fruit and a very "creamy" finish. This is my new crowd pleasing wine that I have open for guests — 10 years ago
Really loved this. Very lush mouthfeel. Great on the nose, mid palate and finish! Goes and goes. — 10 years ago
This rocks! Mitsubishi heir spent $180 mil on this winery. Bought 2000 acres on Hal mountain and procures services of Heidi Barrett and David Abreu, two of he best wine makers. This collaboration is solid, can wait to try it in 5 or 6 years! — 11 years ago
Saved since 2013 - opened as Anniversary treat and it was a pleasure. Crisp, yet buttery; refreshing, yet woodsy. Had it served extra chilled. Choice! Worth the price. — 8 years ago
In 2005 Marie and Frédéric Chauffray came across the perfect plot of land—25 acres on the plateau of Arboras in Terrasses du Larzac, situated in the Langeudoc. They sold the prestigious wine shop they owned outside Paris and embarked upon the dream of making wine, together founding Domaine de La Réserve d'O. Berry fruit and cacao notes. Cherry and mocha with spice and fine tannins. Lingering finish with ending with mineral notes. — 8 years ago

Not your typical Hunter. More elegant than rustic. — 10 years ago
Plum, blackberry, candy apple, fig newtons, and insects on the nose, very soft tannins, nicely balanced heat and acidity. Lingering finish. Nice. — 10 years ago
This is 7000 case production brand from the 550 acres they own. The other brands using this fruit is lincourt and two sisters — 12 years ago

4th Generation Sonoma Valley site planted from 1890-1914, 85% Zin, 10 Alicante, 3 Petit Syrah, 2 Carignane. 30 acres. Ridge has been making Pagani since 1991. Interesting wine!! Slightly oxidative at open, then showing a creamy malo'y thing, but then the cedar and caramel, black cherry...Incredibly fresh, great acid. Showing age on the nose but the fruit is pure and alive. I would drink these but might stash one for a really long time like 2028 or 2033. — 8 years ago
Recently purchased by Bill Foley of Foley Family Wines, continuing traditions of Fred Furth who founded Chalk Hill in 1972, which encompasses 280 acres of vineyards. A blend of 84% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Sauvignon Gris and 6% Sauvignon Musque, the latter 2 adding an interesting dynamic to the wine and distinctive aromas. One of the few SB's to see some oak giving this wine complexity. Peach, herb and earthy tones, well balanced with acidity, smooth yet robust on a lingering finish ending with citrus notes. — 9 years ago
Bold maneuver by Joe Swick of co-fermenting Pinot Gris & Noir results in a pleasurable puzzle of a wine, like listening to Ornette Coleman get rid of chord changes, this wines interacts w perceptions at a radical pace. The Pinot Gris actually supplies more tannic chew that buzzes on the palate while the Noir presents a folk melody structure to wrap your mind around. The collision is rather haunting, and I can't wait to understand how it goes with food in surprising ways. I'm gonna glass this sucker at Americano! — 10 years ago

Feeling like @33Acres is British Columbia's best craft brewer. The caveat being I wasn't able to try @Brassneckbrew. — 11 years ago

Sipping Fine Wine
Founded in 1973 when Joe Phelps purchased a former cattle ranch near St. Helena in Napa, the winery now controls and farms nearly 375 acres of vines on 8 estate vineyards. Aromas of dried berry fruits and spice. On the palate of predominately Cab Sauvignon which sat in oak for 18 months, flavors of ripe berry, cacao and smoky nuts, firm sweet tannins on lingering finish ending soft. Will age well. — 8 years ago
