Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo
Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Best on Day 2. The 2013 “Castiglione” pours a pretty garnet with a translucent core, medium+ viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears. Red fruits with roses, dried herbs, red rope licorice, and a touch of baking spices. On the palate the wine is dry, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Nicely ripened red and dark fruits with some hints of tobacco and baking spices. This is a very good wine however, for my taste, this is too glossy and polished for what I want in a Barolo. That being said, the modern sensibilities will be appreciated by many. This seems to have a long life ahead. If I had some in my cellar, I would drink over the next ten years.

Nov 15th, 2018Pale to Medium garnet in color with menthol, plum, violet, dried cherry and rose petal aromas. Very tannic, high acidity, full bodied wine with orange peel, dark cherry and a bit of anise and tar in the background on a long finish.

May 11th, 2018Sour cherry, crushed rose petals on the nose. Medium + acidity, high tannins. Medium + finish. Better with a few more years of bottle age.

1 person found it helpfulJul 15th, 2017The nose opened with hints of cedar dust, dried cherries, and crushed fall leaves. On the palate, I found refined and silky textures, with pure red fruits, spice, intense minerals and savory depth. The finish was long with hauntingly dark floral tones and hints of bitter herbs.
